Awareness Caravan on RDEI Program and University Policies Commences Today

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation (RDEI), led by Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog, officially launched its 5-day Awareness Caravan today, April 27, 2026. The initiative aims to streamline university policies and foster a comprehensive culture of research, innovation and community service across all academic units.

Opening the caravan at the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA), Dean Prof. Emil James P. Tanagon emphasized the importance of policy literacy for both seasoned and new faculty members.

"This activity is a vital avenue for faculty to learn, unlearn, and relearn. It’s an opportunity to gain fresh knowledge about the RDEI landscape while updating and improving our existing policies to stay relevant," Prof. Tanagon noted.

The caravan features specialized sessions led by university directors to ensure faculty are well-versed in the support systems available to them:

• Publication Support and Load Reduction: Presented by Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog (VP for RDEI).

• Research Guidelines & Proposal Submission: Detailed by Dr. Dionisio S. Bucao (Director for Research).

• Extension Services & Community Engagement: Discussed by Dr. Marlowe U. Aquino (Director for Extension).

• Innovation and Technology: Facilitated by Prof. Armie C. Sabugo (Director for Innovation and Technology).

The 5-day event is strategically scheduled to reach all colleges across the university:
• April 27, CBEA and COE
• April 28, CIT, CTE, COM, CHS, COD
• April 29, CAS, CCIS, CAFSD, CVM
• April 30, CASAT

MMSU InnoTech Participates in University-Wide Wellness and Community Building Day

The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Innovation and Technology Directorate (InnoTech) participated in a university-wide wellness initiative aimed at fostering workplace community and holistic team development. Following a directive from the Office of the President, the activity provided a vital opportunity for staff to transition from their technical mandates to focus on health and social synergy within the university workforce.

The event commenced with a Wellness Lunch from 12:00 NN to 1:00 PM, during which InnoTech team gathered in their respective units to share nutritious meals. This was followed by a dedicated block for Social Wellness Activities from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. During this window, the Directorate suspended all standard work-related tasks to prioritize internal team-building exercises designed to strengthen professional bonds and boost morale among the team members.

The day concluded with a high-energy Simultaneous Zumba Session held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. As part of the Batac Campus contingent, the InnoTech team assembled at the Covered Court for the concluding fitness activity.

By taking part in these activities, the InnoTech reaffirmed its commitment to highlight a healthy and connected team as a foundation of effective innovation.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | MMSU secures 5th IPOPHL Platinum, gains first Palladium Award

By Dionisio Bucao, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘳

For the fifth consecutive year, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) received the Platinum Award and, for the first time, the Palladium Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. The awards were conferred during the ITSO Presidents’ Summit and General Assembly held on March 25, 2026 in Iloilo City.

The awards came as a result of the University’s sustained efforts in innovation, particularly in generating intellectual property, developing patents, and facilitating technology transfer.

The Palladium Award, the highest distinction given to Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs), is conferred on institutions that maintain Platinum status for five consecutive years and demonstrate outstanding performance across key areas, including patent filings, commercialization, training, and IP awareness. MMSU achieved this through the consistent efforts of its University Innovation and Technology Support Office (UITSO), supported by the RAISE Program of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development.

This year, only 11 institutions nationwide received the Palladium Award, including UP Diliman, UP Manila, Ateneo de Manila University, Cavite State University, and other leading universities. MMSU stands as the only awardee from Region 1.

The awards were presented by IPOPHL Deputy Director General Atty. Ann Claire Credo-Cabochan and Director Ralph Jarvis Alindogan, and received by Engr. Artbellson Mamuri, ITSO Manager and UITSO chief, on behalf of the university.

MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. congratulated the university community on the achievement. “These awards show how much we have worked in the name of innovation, and we are called to do more. Please remember, we do not work for recognition, but for the impact our work can bring to our communities,” he said.

Dr. Manzano added that MMSU will continue to strengthen its innovation ecosystem and ensure that research outputs lead to real-world solutions.

This March, the Innovation and Technology Directorate proudly joins the nation in celebrating Women’s Month, honoring the extraordinary women who lead innovation, and strengthen inclusive development. We celebrate the strength and leadership of Filipino women as powerful drivers of innovation, MSME growth, and technology generation across communities and industries.

This month, we reaffirm our commitment to expanding women’s participation in innovation and technology by promoting gender-responsive programs, policies, and opportunities that empower women to thrive and lead. We continue to support women-led enterprises, startups, researchers, and innovators by providing access to capacity-building, technology resources, mentorship, and collaborative innovation opportunities. At the same time, we remain committed to creating inclusive environments where women’s contributions are recognized, valued, and celebrated as vital forces behind innovation and sustainable development.

Women are powerful agents of change. From researchers and technology transfer officers to innovators, incubatees, entrepreneurs, and industry partners, their ideas create impactful solutions, their leadership strengthens innovation ecosystems, and their resilience helps build stronger, sustainable, and future-ready communities.
