Water heater repair. Part3
Diagnosing water heater problem with the burner assembly out of the firebox.
Check: Thermocouple, ignition rod, pilot assembly, burner, high temp. switch. With a sand paper, clean all the components; removing rust or mineral deposits. Check ignition rod gap or distance from the pilot light assembly. Make sure not to damage the burner screen if you have this in your water heater.
Now the burner assembly is ready to go back in the firebox.
