The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace.” We, Franchette Valeska Ayunan and Rickcell Guiral from the Grade 12-Titanium STEM strand, are pleased to introduce China as the nation we have selected for this project. East Asia includes the nation of China. Peace is one of its key goals, and it is one of the UN's founding members. The traditional Chinese tang suit is defined by the male wearer's inner and outer layers. The unfolded collar shape of a mandarin jacket with a high mandarin collar typically reaches 2-4 inches up the neck. This constitutes the topmost layer. A robe called a Changshan normally makes up the inner layer. For women, hanfu is the traditional clothing in China. The Chinese word for match or embellishment is pei, which is how the decorations are referred to. Our social standing increased with the number of decorations we wore. We donned headdresses in addition to our hanfu. One-piece dresses, jackets with skirts, and jackets with pants are the three different styles of Hanfu. The most common outfit for us women is a jacket with a skirt. Our attire was made of silk and cotton. Silk is the preferred fabric for modern Tang suits and Hanfus because it represents Chinese elegance and humility. Silk is the most well-known cloth from China and is a silky, sumptuous fabric. Therefore, wearing it is a representation of Chinese culture.
In today's world, we face numerous challenges. Racism or discrimination is one of them. Racism is the irrational idea that a certain race has unique cultural characteristics conferred by hereditary elements that make certain races intrinsically superior to others and give them the right to exploit the superior races. When we discuss racism honestly, it becomes clear how absurd and unthinkable such a concept is. However, racism is so ingrained in our minds and subconscious that we have long submitted to such repulsive notions. Nobody deliberately chooses to be a certain race, including black, white, dark, or fair. There is nothing that should make us feel guilty about the fact that God created us. Making fun of somebody based on their ethnicity or skin tone is foolish and cruel.
Humanity ought to unite to face our shared problems rather than attack one another on the battlefield. We must take advantage of this period of increased awareness to think about how to advance meaningfully, and we must keep going until everyone has access to equal rights, social justice, and medical care. But more than just putting down weapons is required to achieve lasting peace. It is necessary to build a society where everyone feels they can thrive. It entails establishing a society in which everyone is treated fairly, regardless of race.
Each member of our human family has an intrinsic dignity that must be honored. In order to support them as change agents, we must magnify the voices of people who are excluded and marginalized and pay attention to their needs and goals. Above all, partnership and solidarity must be founded on listening; on asking how we can be allies without assuming we know; and on elevating the voice of the voiceless by fighting for spaces where they can be heard. We declare our allegiance, show our support, and state that we are listening with humility and empathy. As we celebrate the International Day of Peace, with the theme of "End racism. Build peace." We invite you to join the efforts of the United Nations as we work towards a world free of racism and racial discrimination. A world where compassion and empathy overcome suspicion and hatred. A world that we can truly be proud of. Be an advocate for human rights! Come combat racism with us!
