Some places stay with you long after you leave them.
During my years serving in Japan as a U.S. Navy sailor, I began noticing things that most people walk past without a second thought. Quiet shrine paths between city streets. Lanterns glowing in the evening mist. Moments that seemed ordinary… until later, when I realized they were not.

The Yokai Must Return
This is the first book in The Gaijin Chronicles, a series written from the perspective of a foreigner living inside the quiet mysteries and reflections of life in Japan.
These are not loud ghost stories.
They are observations of place, memory, culture, and the subtle moments that stay with us long after they happen.
Sometimes the strangest thing about Japan is not what appears…
…it’s how quietly it waits to be noticed.
If you enjoy thoughtful stories with a sense of atmosphere and reflection, this may be a book you will enjoy—or perhaps one to give as a meaningful gift.
