The Asian Institute of Management mourns the passing of Diosdado “Dado” P. Banatao (1946–2025), a transformative Filipino engineer, Silicon Valley innovator, and a key figure whose vision and advocacy shaped the AIM - Dado Banatao Incubator (AIM-DBI).

His breakthroughs in semiconductor technology helped shape modern computing, and his commitment to empowering Filipino innovators continues to resonate across generations.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all the communities he inspired.

The Philippines’ ‘father of semiconductor’ Dado Banatao passes away at age 79.

Banatao helped build the foundations of modern computing with his groundbreaking innovations that revolutionised personal computers, making them faster, cheaper and more accessible to millions worldwide. As the founder and managing partner of Tallwood Venture Capital, his firm focuses on semiconductor technology and continues to back innovations that shape the future of computing. Through his Dado Banatao Educational Fund, he provides scholarships to young aspiring engineers.

Banatao reminds us that it’s the decision to stand back up and fight for our goals that defines the journey to success. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
