“Pwede bang mag-install muna bago magpa-Net-Metering?”

1️⃣ “NET-METERING = ZERO ELECTRIC BILL?”

❌ HINDI AUTOMATIC.

Net-metering helps reduce the electricity you buy from the grid because your solar system supplies part of your consumption.

Kapag may sobrang solar production, puwede itong ma-export sa distribution utility at magkaroon ng peso credits.

Pero hindi ibig sabihin na:

☀️ Solar production = monthly bill
☀️ Exported energy = same value as retail electricity
☀️ Result = automatic ₱0 bill

Your actual bill still depends on your consumption, solar production, timing of usage, system size, and the applicable billing rules.

Solar can reduce your bill. It does not magically erase your electricity consumption.

2️⃣ “1 KWH NA I-EXPORT KO = 1 KWH NA LIBRE KONG GAGAMITIN?”

❌ HINDI GANUN KASIMPLE.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about net-metering.

The electricity you use directly from your solar system can offset electricity you would otherwise buy from the grid.

But excess electricity exported to the grid receives a peso credit based on the applicable net-metering compensation rules—not simply the same retail rate you pay for electricity.

So:

SELF-CONSUMPTION
Solar → Your Loads
= less electricity purchased

EXPORT
Solar → Grid
= Net-metering credit

Magkaiba ang dalawang iyon.

3️⃣ “BASTA MAY SOLAR PANELS, AUTOMATIC NA NET-METERED?”

❌ NO.

Installing solar panels does NOT automatically make your system a net-metered installation.

There is an application and approval/interconnection process with your Distribution Utility.

For example, Meralco's current process includes documentary requirements, technical evaluation, a Net-Metering Agreement, and the applicable meter/interconnection requirements.

⚠️ Important:

Meralco specifically warns that exporting through a meter that is not appropriate for net-metering can result in surplus PV energy being recognized as additional load, potentially increasing the bill.

Under the current Net-Metering framework, the program covers qualified renewable-energy systems within the applicable capacity limit—currently up to 100 kW under the existing rules.

At may isa pang importanteng distinction:

NET-METERING ≠ ZERO EXPORT

NET-METERING

☀️ Solar → Home
⬇️
Excess → Grid
⬇️
💰 Credit

ZERO EXPORT

☀️ Solar → Home
⬇️
Excess → System controls output / may charge battery
⬇️
🚫 Walang export sa grid

Which one is appropriate depends on your project, utility requirements, system design, and objective.

5️⃣ “KAPAG MAY EXCESS SOLAR AKO, SAYANG LANG BA?”

❌ Hindi necessarily.

Under the current ERC rules, net-metering credits can be banked and rolled over toward electricity usage in current and future billing periods, subject to the applicable rules.

Pero ito ang importanteng lesson:

HUWAG LANG MAG-DESIGN NG SOLAR BASED SA “MAXIMUM PANELS.”

The real question is:

“Kailan ko ginagamit ang kuryente?”

Because a properly sized system should consider:

☀️ Solar production
🏠 Actual consumption
⏰ Time of use
🔌 Load profile
⚡ Grid conditions
📊 Net-metering economics
🔋 Battery needs, if applicable

Mas maraming panels ≠ automatically mas malaking savings.

💡 BOTTOM LINE

Net-metering is not simply:

“Mag-solar → export → zero bill.”

It is an energy management and billing arrangement.

The better question is:

That's where proper assessment matters.

If you're considering solar and you're unsure whether you need:

☀️ Net-Metering
🚫 Zero Export
🔋 Zero Export + Battery
or simply a different system size

Don't start with the number of panels.

Start with your actual energy consumption.

TAPUS NA ANG BAGYO. BUMALIK NA ANG ARAW. PERO SAFE NA BANG I-ON ULIT ANG SOLAR SYSTEM MO? ☀️

Kaya bago ka mag-“ON” at sabihing “Okay na ’to!” 😅

📌 Official Reference:
DOE Department Circular No. DC2026-08-0017

🔎 Search the exact reference online para mabasa ninyo mismo ang circular.

☀️ SO, ANO ANG ZERO-EXPORT?

SOLAR → BAHAY/BUSINESS → EXCESS → GRID

Kapag may sobra, puwedeng magkaroon ng export sa grid under the applicable Net Metering rules.

Sa Zero-Export, ang idea naman ay:

SOLAR → SARILING GAMIT

1️⃣ NET METERING

Gamitin ang solar sa sariling load at, kapag may applicable excess generation, maaari itong ma-export sa grid subject to Net Metering rules.

2️⃣ ZERO-EXPORT

Solar power is primarily used for your own consumption, with the system configured to prevent export.

3️⃣ ZERO-EXPORT + BATTERY

ZERO-EXPORT ≠ ZERO RULES

Hindi ibig sabihin na:

❌ “Wala nang electrical requirements.”

❌ “Puwede nang basta mag-install.”

❌ “Kahit anong inverter puwede.”

❌ “Plug-and-play na lahat ng solar system.”

Safety, proper equipment, proper installation, electrical requirements, and other applicable compliance requirements still matter.

Para sa maliliit na Micro-Solar Systems (MSS), may mas simplified requirements under the circular, but that still does not mean electrical safety can be ignored.

💡 AT DITO NAGIGING MAHALAGA ANG SOLAR ASSESSMENT

Bago bumili ng panels, mas magandang malaman muna:

🔹 Magkano at gaano kalaki ang consumption mo?
🔹 Kailan ka pinakamalakas gumamit ng kuryente?
🔹 Gaano kalaki ang solar system na kailangan?
🔹 Net Metering ba ang mas bagay?
🔹 Zero-Export ba?
