SCAM AWARENESS
We are posting this to raise awareness. We have been in the construction industry since 2011, and we have encountered this kind of scam many times.
Here’s how the scam usually works:
Someone pretends to be the procurement head of a well-known company such as Coca-Cola, San Miguel, call centers, or universities. They will then set a meeting with the bosses or schedule an ocular/site visit.
They usually use three scam methods:
1. They will ask you to provide catering for the office pantry. Since you are supposedly dealing with executives, they will say outside food is not allowed, so you are required to make a down payment thru online in their pantry.
2. During the pandemic, they required payment for swab testing at their “partner clinic.” Now, their excuse is that you need to pay for a permit, claiming the property has not yet been officially turned over to them.
3. Someone (posing as a staff member or driver of the boss) will meet you along the way to the site to guide you. While on the way, the “boss” will call and ask if you can stop by the market to buy ordered meat (like beef). The staff will act like they have no money, so the boss or staff will ask you to pay for it first, promising to reimburse you at the site.
This person (and I’m sure this is not even his real photo) tried to scam us again. He didn’t know that we are accredited with many corporate clients, including call centers, so we are very familiar with their systems. Because of that, he failed to scam us. This has happened to us many times already.
So please, don’t fall for these kinds of scams, especially offers that sound too good to be true.
Stay safe and vigilant.
