PSSE Cagayan Valley Chapter Holds Collaborative Meeting on Sanitary Engineering Authority

The Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers (PSSE) Cagayan Valley Chapter, led by President Engr. Frances Carlo C. Unite, held a successful collaborative meeting on January 18, 2025, at Café Avenue, Tuguegarao City. The meeting focused on the authority of Sanitary Engineers under Republic Act No. 1364, specifically concerning the signing and sealing of sanitary and plumbing plans.

Attended by Cagayan Provincial Engineer Engr. Kingston James S. Dela Cruz, City Engineer Engr. Wenceslao M. Arao, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC) Sta. Teresita, Engr. Mark Henry Mercado, and alongside via zoom meetings with PSSE, INC. BOD Engr. Ramil S. Gutierrez and National President Engr. Dave Vergel B. Castro, the meeting provided a platform for addressing several pressing issues in the field. Key topics included clarifying the roles and responsibilities of Sanitary Engineers, resolving jurisdictional conflicts with other Proffesions, and ensuring the consistent implementation of Republic Act No. 1364 across the region.

The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration among local government units, professional organizations, and stakeholders to ensure the proper recognition of Sanitary Engineers’ professional scope. The meeting also emphasized the need for continuous advocacy and education to address emerging challenges in the practice.

PSSE Cagayan Valley Chapter remains committed to advocating for the rights and responsibilities of Sanitary Engineers and will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to drive positive change. Updates and further developments will be shared soon. #

PSSE Cagayan Valley Chapter holds Capacity Building and appreciation visit of Sanitary Landfill in Tuguegarao City

August 3, 2024, the Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers (PSSE) Cagayan Valley conducted a Capacity Building event at the 10.2-hectare Tuguegarao City Landfill. Engr. Jefrey Reymundo led discussions on landfill design and operations, stressing compliance with Republic Act 9003. Engr. Evangeline Rey-Melano provided insights on evaluating landfill sites, considering environmental, technical, and social factors. The facility, situated 10.5 kilometers from the city and adjacent to Iguig, features a Material Recovery Facility and Residual Containment Area. The event aimed to enhance solid waste management practices in the region. # 🌱
