Here is a brief overview of the image, breaking down the 4 key valve types with hashtags:
:
1. ** **: Uses a rotating sphere with a hole to control flow. It’s a very common, quick-on/off valve, great for isolation in various industries.
2. ** **: Uses a rotating disc in the flow stream to control fluid movement. It’s compact, lightweight, and can handle large volumes of fluid.
3. ** **: Uses a globe-shaped body with a plug that moves linearly to regulate flow. This type is excellent for precise throttling and flow adjustment, making it suitable for processes that require close control.
4. ** **: Uses a flat plate (gate) that lowers or raises to block or allow flow. It provides a straight-through flow path when fully open, offering minimal flow restriction. It’s primarily designed for fully open or fully closed service. -Off

Key Types of Fire Extinguishers in the UK

Water Extinguishers (Red): Used for Class A fires involving solid materials like wood, paper, and textiles.

They work by cooling the material.

Foam Extinguishers (Cream): Suitable for Class A and Class B (flammable liquids like petrol or oil) fires. Dry Powder Extinguishers (Blue): Versatile "Multi-Purpose" (ABC) extinguishers effective on solids, liquids, and gases. Standard powder is not generally recommended for enclosed spaces due to inhalation risk and cleanup.

Extinguishers (Black): Designed for Electrical risks and Class B fires. They suffocate the fire without damaging electrical equipment or leaving residues.

Wet Chemical Extinguishers (Yellow): Specially designed for Class F fires, such as high-temperature cooking oils and fats in commercial kitchens.

Water Mist/Spray (Red/White): A specialized, eco-friendly extinguisher that uses microscopic water particles to fight fires, including Class F and electrical, by suffocating and cooling.

Why are PRVs required only on lower floors in high-rise fire fighting systems?

In high-rise buildings, fire pumps generate high static pressure, especially at lower floors. To protect system components and ensure safe firefighting operation, Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) are installed.

Key points about PRV:

1-PRV is not required on every floor

2-Installed mainly on lower floors where pressure exceeds allowable limits

3-Commonly used for hose reels, landing valves, and sometimes sprinkler zones

4-Ensures outlet pressure remains within code-compliant and safe range

5-Works along with Zone Control Valve for isolation and monitoring

Simple rule:

Every floor has a Zone Control Valve, but PRV is provided only where pressure is too high.
