Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Director of the Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics (IBBB) at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, has been invited to the PRPH2 Retinal Diseases Workshop in September 2026. The invitation has been jointly extended by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Columbia, MD, USA, and the Nixon Vision Foundation, San Diego, USA. During his tour to the United States, Prof. Iqbal will also visit the Foundation Fighting Blindness in Columbia, MD, the Nixon Vision Foundation in San Diego, and the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego. He will hold meetings with leading scientists and researchers working on the genetic and molecular basis of inherited retinal disorders to explore future collaborations. The objective of this visit is to strengthen academic and research linkages between international institutions and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

Congratulations to Dr. Hina Sajid and Supervisor.

Ph.D. Scholar Successfully Defends Doctoral Research at the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, IUB

Ms. Hina Sajid successfully defended her Ph.D. research under the supervision of Dr. Gull-e-Faran and the co-supervision of Prof Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Department of Environmental Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad.

Her doctoral research, titled "Hyper-production of Fibrinolytic Enzymes from Oidiodendron flavum and Oidiodendron maius Using Agro-industrial Residues," focused on the isolation and characterization of mutated fungal strains and the evaluation of their potential for enhanced production of fibrinolytic enzymes using agro-industrial residues.

The Ph.D. defense was held at the Jinnah Auditorium and was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Dean, Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Director, Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (IBBB); Dr. Mirza Imran Shahzad; Dr. Gull-e-Faran; Dr. Samina Ejaz; Dr. Fatima Ismail; faculty members, research scholars, and distinguished guests.

The research was evaluated by the External Examiner, Prof Dr. Sajjad-ur-Rehman, Director, Department of Microbiology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

On this occasion, the Dean, Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences, and the Chairman, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology congratulated Dr. Hina Sajid on the successful completion and defense of her doctoral research.

The faculty has extended congratulations to Dr. Hina Sajid on this remarkable academic achievement and wishes her continued success and excellence in her future academic and research endeavors.
