Syed Muhammad Umer was born in Lahore, which is known to be the city of colleges. Since his childhood, his parents were very conscious about giving quality education and they have provided him with the best possible options they can afford. He has completed his schooling and college study from his home city. Then he moved to Karachi, which is known to be the city of lights and the largest city in
terms of area and population in Pakistan, to pursue his university education. After getting his degree, he came back to his hometown to start his career as a professional engineer in some automation industry. He has served three years in the industrial sector and then realized that he must enhance his education to remain in the competition for fast-growing technological development in the world. So, he moved to China to further his education to the master’s level. It was a very good experience living abroad which broadens the vision and opens the doors for accepting new challenges. After coming back to Pakistan, he felt that industry is not enough to fulfill the passion of getting progressively more knowledge. Therefore, he decided to join academia to foster the thirst for knowledge and keep improving himself. Initially, he joined a private-sector university as a researcher, and after going through hardships and struggling phases, and competing with a large number of graduates, he finally able to secure a faculty position in a public-sector university, which was also his dream job. He is really enjoying this position because in this capacity he is continuously increasing his knowledge and sharing it with youngsters, which is the moral and social responsibility. Now, after spending more than three years in academia, he came up to this point that PhD is the starting point to enter into the world of research and development. Without PhD, it is very much difficult to network with the research community around the globe and, one must be a specialist in some specific research field, which is not possible without having a PhD degree. Apart from academics, like in school, in college too he was as active as he could be both in and out of the class. He played several sports after college hours. He ensured that he was always where the action was. His participation in sports further added to the mental aptitude, the skills like teamwork, leadership, and communication. He became the Minister of International Students at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and served for the welfare of students during 2013-2014. He is also a member of different professional bodies for volunteer activities too.
