🌕In 2017, Sahiwal Power Plant established the Huaneng Pakistan Vocational & Technical College, offering courses in welding, relay protection, computer skills and more — giving young people a platform to build practical skills and improve their job prospects. Admission is open to all, with free tuition, learning materials, shuttle buses, meals and access to professional certification.📚

In 2025, the college upgraded its facilities and launched free computer and secretarial classes for young women in nearby communities, helping more women access employment opportunities.

To date, it has trained thousands of local young people and helped more than 60 skilled professionals join the power plant, Pakistan’s energy institutions and the national grid — becoming an important source of energy talent in the region.💪

From a newcomer who could barely read technical drawings to a Senior Electrical Engineer leading maintenance work, Pakistani colleague Syed Muhammad Zain at Huaneng Sahiwal Power Plant has grown step by step with the guidance of his Chinese mentors and professional training.
His story is not unique. The Huaneng Pakistan Vocational & Technical College, established by Sahiwal Power Plant, offers free training in computer skills, secretarial work, welding, electrical work and thermal power plant simulation, helping more young people build skills and grow their careers.💪

In 2015, Jawad Hussain joined Sahiwal Power Plant. A year later, he traveled to Jinan and Shanghai, China, for six months of training in plant safety and operations. There, he gained firsthand experience of Chinese power plant operations, laying a solid foundation for his career.
Back in Pakistan, Jawad took part in the commissioning of two 660-MW supercritical coal-fired units, gaining valuable hands-on experience alongside Chinese engineers. As the plant advanced its localization efforts, Pakistani employees gradually took on greater responsibilities. Jawad rose through the ranks and became the plant’s first Pakistani shift supervisor. For Jawad, youth means staying curious, constantly learning and having the courage to take on responsibility. Today, as he leads an entire shift team, he continues to sharpen his skills, embrace new challenges and stay fully committed to his role.

In December 2015, fresh out of university, Waqas Rasool joined China Huaneng Group as an electrical engineering graduate. In 2016, he began a 10-month training program at Huaneng Rizhao Power Plant, where Chinese colleagues helped him master equipment operation and maintenance.

After returning to Pakistan, he joined the commissioning and operation of the 1,320-MW units at Sahiwal Power Plant. Working alongside Chinese and Pakistani engineers, he transformed knowledge into hands-on expertise and gradually became a key technical member of the team. In July 2026, Waqas won first prize in the intelligent operation, maintenance and inspection of high-voltage cables category at the CICA Skills Competition in Guangzhou.🏆

From a newcomer to a skilled electrical professional, Waqas’s journey reflects the power of continuous accumulation and the pursuit of excellence. He will continue to sharpen his skills, share his experience, and contribute to China-Pakistan friendship and reliable power supply.💪

Muhammad Muneeb, from a remote village in Pakistan, joined the operations team at Sahiwal Power Plant after graduating from university in 2015. Alongside 57 Pakistani colleagues, he spent nine months in China receiving specialized training. Back at the plant, with support from Chinese colleagues, he grew from a fresh graduate into chief operator of the ACO team for a 660-MW unit and now serves as an ACO team monitor. His career growth has also brought higher income, improved his family’s living conditions, and opened new possibilities for their future.

For Muneeb, youth means seizing opportunities, embracing hard work, and realizing personal value through continuous effort. Today, Pakistani employees make up more than 70% of the workforce at Sahiwal Power Plant, playing a vital role in its operations. More young people like Muneeb are building skills, growing with Huaneng, and shaping brighter futures.

In 2015, fresh out of university, Pakistani graduate Fahad Ahmed joined Sahiwal Power Plant with a passion for the power industry. For Fahad, youth means building strength through learning and creating value through growth. Since joining the plant, he has learned from experienced Chinese colleagues, strengthened his professional knowledge and technical skills, and grown into head of the control room in the Operations Department. Together with his team, he helps keep the units running safely and reliably, contributing to a more stable power supply for Pakistan.💪

Huaneng places strong emphasis on developing local talent. Fahad trained in Weihai, Shandong Province, and later joined his colleagues in earning an award at the “Huaneng Craftsman Cup” skills competition. Through continuous learning and hands-on experience, he continues to challenge himself, grow, and create value with Huaneng.
