Mission Black n Black 22nd May 2026

A visit to black granite (dolerite) lease areas located in Mansehra (KP).

The absolute quality of a dimension stone plays an integral role in setting the bench mark range of its market value, yet the mining project requires something more than that. The equation integrating "Quality", "Cost", and "Schedule" which must result in a positive value!!!! Out of these three parameters, cost exclusively must be optimum.

For small scale mining projects where the stakeholders' "affordable" budget is low, upfront investment in terms of stakeholder management, (e.g. land acquisition and compensation, and futuristic land utilization agreements etc) becomes a critical factor. Besides this the cost of exploration may be optimized using "analogous resource assessment", "targeted test quarrying", and "production-oriented mine development" etc.

In such specific cases, the milestones may be targeted on a daily or at most weekly or fortnightly basis. I have the opinion that all budget-constrained mining projects may need an interim milestone of "Getting a satisfactory confidence to anticipate the degree/extent of uncertainty of the project deliverables. Once this confidence is gained, the comprehensive sales and marketing planning may be helpful in acquiring considerable financial resources to transform this project on the higher scale.

Mission Hazara - 16th April 2026

Visit to 2 different black granite (dolerite) areas, one operational mine, located in Mansehra (KP), for onsite technical demonstration of the development progress, and 2nd virgin area for the resource assessment for probable project viability.

The current fuel prices hike has adversely affected the project operations and in few cases started debate over financial viability. For one and a half decade I have been observing "unforeseens" apparently affecting the black mining projects at least once in every three to five years. I still remember tentatively 2010-11, 2014; 2017; 2019-20 phases were the notable times including "Corona effects" of 2020.

In my assessment every pushback phase to the black granite mining projects turned out to be the blessing in the disguise in two ways:

1- Every tough phase for black granite influenced the stakeholder to critically plan and execute to expand the granite family. In every such time, the Miners and Processers agreed to look for the new stones. As an example I may refer to the 2013-14 phase. Before that the locally produced granites family was primarily comprised of black granite but in that tough period the market welcomed "Tropical Grey". Similarly during 2017 the market welcomed Golden Juparana and similar variants of TG etc. 2019-20 tentatively was the time that more stones from GB, Malakand and Dir had been in the market. During the last two years the inflow of new varieties has been faster than ever.

Currently I reckon, there have been 40+ varieties of locally originated granitic family (30+ are part of my PhD research); and similar number for locally originated marble family (25+ are part of my PhD research).

2- After every tough phase (for black granite), the local market of this stone revived with better sale values and an observable increase in market demands. These increments have actually been the boosters than only loss compensators.

For me though the current fuel price hikes have affected the black granite mining projects and local markets adversely but in my anticipation the eventual result will Insha Allah be another boost to the dimension stones industry of Pakistan and mark my word. This time, not only "mining" projects will revive but also "stone processing" sector too.

For me this may be nature's hard way to bring our dimension stones sector on the track of "Sustainability".

Please communicate through DM, call, and whatsapp for your queries and for the optimization audits of your mining projects.

Mission Black Progression

A visit to the black granite mine located in Mansehra for the assessment of progression in terms of absolute quality of the stone and the operational efficiency.

With few exceptions, I experienced that the black granite deposits with clay-embedded-boulders-based outcrops have the trend of increased clustering (and most likely quality too) from top to bottom. The isolation of boulders in the outcrop reduces into the depth eventually converted into complex interlocking. This isolation to complex-interlocking may be separated from one another through a high fractured zone. Resource quality may increase with depth but more depths doesn't simply interpret more quality.

One more thing is the zonation in terms of quality and interlocked clustering even at depths. This means that there may be multiple clusters of interlocked stones differing in quality from each other. The spread of each of these clusters may vary. Each of such fertile clusters may be separated through waste rock.

So there is is an important point. The black granite resource needs detailed and dedicated geophysical assessments accompanied by selective boreholes for precise resource modeling. For small scale studies the depth of assessment should be at least more than 50 meters or preferably 100 m or more but more importantly the lateral grid spacings be preferably no more than 5 m each or otherwise must not exceed 10 m each for better precision.

To manage cost effectiveness, It is preferable to study a narrow yet fertile zone of the resource (concluded through earlier field reconnaissance surveys) with high precision than to survey larger part or complete resource with lesser precision.

Please communicate through Whatsapp, call, and DM for optimization audits and surveys of your mineral resources and mining projects.

Mission "Marblous visit to the heavenly beautiful villages of Mardan"

A visit to a recently initiated operational marble extraction project located in Mardan.

The marble resources of Buner, Mardan, and Sawabi have the beauty of offering leverage to the investors, operators, and planners for long-term mechanized projects since these resources have appealing colors, market acceptability, wide, long and continuous spread, allowing to plan and mitigate risks. However, I believe that feasibility assessment of such resources must include phase-wise and temporal investment plans and marketing schemes besides normal operational and financial planning.

I have the ideology of short-term plans with least mechanization for stone detachments (only using excavators only for mechanical breakage of marbles instead of using wiresaw or chainsaw too) for mine development at the very start the project. This term may span from 1 month to 4 months depending on the pace of development and achievement of the planned and anticipated targets. Once the first benchmark is achieved, there may be a progressive transformation from conventional to high mechanization. This allows the financial cushions and dealing with uncertainties of the project.

Besides the technical aspects, let me exclaim that the geographical locations of marble resources in Buner, Mardan and Sawabi are worth visiting for their beauty and simplicity, and nearness to the nature. The beauty surely enhances if there is rain. Let me also exclaim that I have been a huge fan of the hospitality and honesty of the residents of this region. Stakeholder management for mining projects in this region may be highly enjoyable.

1st April 2026

Mission 2G - Visit to black "Granite" lease area in district Mansehra and "Graphite" area in district Torghar. Phase-1

Observing adequate veins of black granite and graphite may be a pleasure and in fact a blessing if either or both are fertile. The mighty Indus river flowing near the lease areas adds soothing effects to the vision.

Being randomly scheduled, in fact the visit was unplanned and unanticipated for these minerals and I soon felt that we need a more comprehensive and dedicated timeframe for assessment of the areas for identification of hotspots and target zones (if any). For me it's never only about geology but an integrated scheme resulting in operational and financial feasibility assessment. This integration requires dedicated time and resources for studying the area and identifying if small scale test mining or detailed geophysical surveying may be the next step.

Having the comprehensive knowledge about your mineral resources in integrally important and equally important is the knowledge of how to extract these resources optimally.

2nd April 2026: Participation in a meeting of the Board of Advanced Studies, Mining Engineering Department UET Peshawar. It has always been more than an honor for me to participate in such meetings and for this I have always been thankful to the chairman and all faculty members of the department.

Please communicate with us through Whatsapp, call and DM for the audit(s) for your valuable mineral resources, mines, and projects.

28th March 2026

Mission "Gran-Malakand"

A Visit to colored-granite lease area for the geo-referred sampling.

Small-sized samples from various stones were collected through a Banjar (petrol-driven portable) drill machine. The purpose aimed were comparative assessment of the true/fresh color of the stone, identification of the probable zone for successive operations, collection of the representative stones for yielding polished slabs for further market valuation analyses, and hence to anticipate mine development and operations' planning.

The market analyses may be one of the critical and vital phases required for financial and operational feasibility study of the project. Small scale mining projects where there may be limited financial resources, the preferred mining strategy may be the demand-driven production in the first phase, and then progressive development and increment in the scale and volume of the project. I have always been arguing that marketing is one of the integrally important parts of a mining project and may be the strong influencer on the outcomes of the project. It's not a one-time or limited-time activity but a continuous recurring activity.

For me the operational mining project of dimension stones should preferably incorporate the broader phases of "excavation", "transportation", "processing", and "sales and marketing of the processed products" to be the highly profitable project. Dividing these phases into more than one business category may lead to profit sharing or may be collective profit reduction.

If you are also aiming for the optimization of your mining projects, please communicate with us through DM, call and Whatsapp for the mine audit:

17th February 2026

Visit to a highly mechanized white marble mining project located in district Mohmand Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Though the white-base of a marble variety has always proved lucrative parameters, this project may be considered as the symbol of visionary mindset and a committed and dedicated team of workers for mining projects in Pakistan.

Mining projects must always be considered in vertical integration i.e. integrated with the prior exploration mechanism, and the afterwards processing schemes and finally sales and marketing planning. Absolute excavation activities are merely the fractional part of a mining project. The level of understanding and futuristic planning of the business web is a reflection of the investor's vision. Keeping all the stakeholders hopeful and intact may be the most successful strategies and that's what the visionary leaders of the projects always do.

But here is an important question:

Have the existing policies been aiming to provide business-friendly environments?

One of the big reasons to worry about the progression and success of mining projects isnone of the globally prime zones of one of the globally premium dimension stone entities!!!

Mission "Marblous Mechanization"
18th Jan 2026 - Visit to White marble mechanized mining project located in district Mohmand for upgraded planning and development schemes.

This is my second visit of the project after a huge gap and let me assure you that if anyone can observe the commitment and dedication to the mining project, this is a lovely example. I intend to appreciate the investor and all the team for their dedication and commitment.

The comprehensive mine development and production scheme relies on efficient geological, geographical and topographical understanding. The geological assessment and the orientation of the resource is the must while developing the mine e.g. in this part of the district the extension is a little deviated from N-S and this can be observable and measurable on various operational projects here. I have also experienced regular and random fracture-sets in every marble resource and also the diversification of variants of white marble primarily vertically or otherwise laterally within the resource and that's why one may expect not massive quantities of the most- appealing, most-fascinated, most-exclamable, and the wonder-variant of white marble in any resource.

To anticipate these parameters I always endorse high-resolution drone-mapping of the target area. The integration of VR for AR view of the resource is what we generally aim for the development and production planning. If necessary, a genuine geophysical survey results integrated in this AR scheme will be extremely fateful. And you know from where we start this scheme!!!

The use of mobile-based applications during the very initial and introductory visit.

But why???

Since we believe that we may not dedicate every resource during the preliminary reconnaissance but we can't afford to wait for taking the valuable observations and measurements for the next detailed visit. The initial measurements with smaller accuracy pave the way forward for selecting the most-compatible, most-accurate, and most-efficient exploration.
