The long sabre, dated to the 11th century, combines the agility of a curved, single-edged blade with the reliability of a solid guard and counterweight. Designed primarily for swift, powerful cuts, it also retains efficiency in thrusts. Its slightly curved profile allowed fighters to deliver dynamic strikes — an advantage highly valued in early medieval warfare.
