🌍🗺️ Barbara Petchenik Children’s Map Competition – World Final at the 33rd International Cartographic Conference!

During the 33rd International Cartographic Conference, the international final of the Barbara Petchenik Children’s Map Competition will take place under the theme:

“Maps in everyday life”

The Barbara Petchenik Competition is a biennial map-drawing competition for children, established by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) in 1993 in memory of Barbara Petchenik, former Vice-President of the ICA and a cartographer with a lifelong interest in maps created for and by children.

The aim of the competition is to encourage children to creatively represent the world around them through maps and graphic expression.

The competition begins at the national level, with selected winning entries advancing to the international round held during the International Cartographic Conference. The submitted maps are displayed at the conference, where the international winners are selected.

After the final round, the original maps are transferred to the Carleton University Library, which preserves the physical entries. Digital versions are also included in its archive, which contains competition entries dating back to 1993.

🏛️ Meet the Powerhouses Behind the Conference! (Part 3/3)

To complete our organizing trio alongside Stowarzyszenie Geodetów Polskich and Politechnika Warszawska, we are proud to introduce our third co-host: Wydział Geografii i Studiów Regionalnych UW, Uniwersytet Warszawski (Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, University of Warsaw – UW)! 🎓🌟

As Poland's largest and top-ranked comprehensive university, UW brings an invaluable interdisciplinary perspective to our event. Through its esteemed Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, the university stands as a pillar of excellence in geographic research, cartographic theory, geoinformatics, and environmental analysis. 🌍📊

Where engineering meets human geography, UW excels. Their researchers explore how spatial data shapes societies, urban ecosystems, climate strategy, and regional development — bridging the gap between raw data and real-world impact.

With the combined strength of a national professional association (SGP), a technical powerhouse (WUT), and an academic leader in comprehensive sciences (UW), our conference is backed by an extraordinary foundation! 🤝✨

🎉 Our hosting team is fully assembled and ready to welcome you to Warsaw!

🌐 Meet the Powerhouses Behind the Conference! (Part 1/3)

Organizing an international event of this scale takes a strong foundation, which is why we are thrilled to introduce the first of our three official host organizations: The Association of Polish Surveyors (SGP – Stowarzyszenie Geodetów Polskich)! 📐✨

With a rich legacy dating back over a century, SGP is the cornerstone of Poland's surveying, geodetic, and mapping community. As a proud member of international federations like FIG - International Federation of Surveyors and The Council of European Geodetic Surveyors, SGP has spent decades connecting professionals, fostering innovation, and advancing spatial science—from classic surveying techniques to cutting-edge GIS technology.

Their commitment to bridging history, science, and practice makes them an essential co-host for our upcoming gathering!

🇪🇸 ⚽ 🇦🇷
Spotted: A global heatwave, mostly concentrated on Spain’s chances to win. 🔥
But football loves a good underdog story. What's your take?

A global online poll of more than 20,000 football fans suggests that Spain enters the 2026 World Cup Final as the preferred team on every continent, although the race is much tighter in Europe and South America.

Do you think these results reflect global opinion, or will Argentina have more neutral support than this poll suggests?

Source: MARCA online poll (20,000+ votes, geolocated by IP), reported by TUDN. Africa adjusted to 88% Spain / 12% Argentina due to an apparent reporting error in the original article.
