April 25th in Portugal, known as Freedom Day (Dia da Liberdade), commemorates the peaceful revolution of 1974 that ended decades of dictatorship.

On this day, a military-led movement overthrew the authoritarian regime without significant violence, restoring democracy and civil rights to the country.

The revolution became known as the Carnation Revolution because citizens placed red carnations in the soldiers’ rifles as a symbol of peace.

Today, April 25th is celebrated with parades, speeches, and cultural events, honoring freedom, democracy, and the courage of those who changed Portugal’s history.

From the cellars where time shapes great wines, they return to their origin to begin a new life.

The used Port Pipes from Tanoaria Josafer carry history in every grain of the wood. Sourced from partner wineries, where they have aged wines for many years, these casks return to their home cooperage for a meticulous process of inspection and restoration.

In the hands of our skilled coopers, each pipe is carefully evaluated, repaired, and revitalized, preserving its unique character while ensuring the highest quality for a new cycle.

More than barrels, they are living testimonies of tradition, ready to write their next story.

There is a special moment in every barrel we produce, the moment it leaves our facilities and begins its own journey.

Close to the majestic Douro River, just a short distance from our cooperage, a remarkable vessel awaits. It is here that our barrels are carefully loaded, each one carrying not only fine oak, but also tradition, craftsmanship, and dedication.

From that point forward, a long and meaningful journey begins, guided by waters that have witnessed centuries of heritage and trade. Each barrel travels across borders and cultures, destined for some of the most respected distilleries in the world.

Within these barrels, time takes on a new dimension. Patiently and naturally, they contribute to the aging process of some of the finest rums, shaping character, depth, and complexity in every drop.

For us at Tanoaria Josafer, it is a true privilege to be part of this journey. Knowing that our work continues far beyond our workshop, accompanying stories, celebrating milestones, and leaving a lasting mark over time.
