ACADEMIA TO INDUSTRY: FIRST EDITION

We are pleased to announce the first edition of the Academia to Indústria event, which will take place tomorrow, May 7, at the Fundação Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda.

This initiative aims to bring academia and industry closer together, fostering knowledge sharing, innovation, and the creation of synergies between students, researchers, and industry professionals.

At its core, the event seeks to create a 🤝“circle of trust” through a structured confidence-building environment, where key stakeholders from industry and academia can openly exchange technical needs, challenges, and opportunities.

The e.Biofilm team had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Matthew Fields 🧑‍🔬, Director of the Center for Biofilm Engineering at Montana State University 🎓, to FEUP 🏛️ for a one-month visit 📅.

In addition to meetings with professors, researchers, and students 🤝, we had the privilege of attending an engaging seminar 💡 titled:

“What can synthetic biofilms tell us about natural biofilms?” 🧫

We would like to thank Prof. Matthew Fields 🙏 once again for his visit, and for the valuable insights and interactions 💬 that will undoubtedly contribute to both our current research 🔬 and future projects 🚀.

📸 A few highlights from an inspiring day!

Following Microbiotec 25, we took the advantage of having the team together and organized a future-oriented workshop to reflect on the key challenges and opportunities shaping the next steps of our project and the long-term sustainability of our team.
Through focused working groups, we explored three strategic topics:
🔹 Delivery – Barriers and Strategies
🔹 Biofilms – Challenges and Technologies
🔹 The Role of AI in Biofilm Research
The workshop helped us align our vision, define next steps, and explore how AI can accelerate biofilm research. It also strengthened collaboration and team spirit — setting the stage for impactful work ahead! 💪🦠

On December 16, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Gordon Ramage 🎓 from Glasgow Caledonian University (School of Health and Life Sciences).
🧫 His talk explored the clinical impact of fungal biofilms on human health and how their interaction with bacteria 🦠 can influence virulence and responses to antimicrobial therapies 💊, with examples from oral and wound infection studies.
