When the way we build evolves, the way we lead has to evolve with it.
That was the energy behind our latest Stories of the Web session with Lucian Popovici.
There’s been a lot of conversation lately about AI, efficiency, and the future of work. But this time, we shifted the focus somewhere deeper: the human layer behind the systems we’re building.
Because while scaling infrastructure has never been easier, scaling trust, connection, and resilient teams is where the real challenge begins.
Lucian didn’t come in with frameworks or management playbooks. He brought perspective.
From years spent across startups, outsourcing environments, and complex organizations, he unpacked what leadership actually looks like when things aren’t ideal, when teams are under pressure, and when the answers aren’t obvious.
We explored questions that are becoming impossible to ignore:
🧠 Why “soft skills” aren’t optional—and never really were
🛡️ How AI is reshaping not just how we work, but how we lead and make decisions
🧱 The difference between managing output and truly leading people
👀 And what all of this means for the next generation of engineers trying to find their place in an AI-shaped industry
One idea kept surfacing throughout the evening: leadership isn’t about control anymore—it’s about context, clarity, and creating environments where people can do their best work.
Especially now, when junior developers are entering a field that looks nothing like it did even a few years ago, the responsibility shifts. From gatekeeping knowledge to enabling growth. From hierarchy to mentorship.
And maybe that’s the real upgrade:
Not better processes. Better humans behind them.
To everyone who joined, asked honest questions, and stayed for the conversations after—thank you. That’s where the real value always happens.
And to Lucian, for the candor, the humor, and the refusal to sugarcoat reality—thank you for keeping it real.
The industry is changing fast. But nights like this remind us that the human side of tech is still what holds everything together.
See you at the next one. 💛
