ESAO 2026 – Plenary Keynote Announcement

We are honoured to welcome Prof. Dr. med. habil. Max J. Hilz to Iași this September for his plenary keynote, "Autonomic Brain–Heart Interaction."

Few people have shaped a field the way Prof. Hilz has shaped autonomic neurology. Co-chair of the Autonomic Nervous System Panel of the European Academy of Neurology, Past-President of both the German Autonomic Society and the European Federation of Autonomic Societies, and Past-Chair of the Autonomic Section of the American Academy of Neurology, his career reads like the map of the discipline itself.

Over decades of academic leadership at Mount Sinai, NYU, UCL, and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, he helped write the very definitions the field runs on, from orthostatic hypotension to POTS, authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, and mentored generations of researchers across Germany and the US.

For a congress built on the theme From Bench to Bedside and Back Again, there is no better voice on the conversation between brain and heart.
Watch his invitation below and join us at the first-ever ESAO congress in Romania, 9–12 September 2026, Palace of Culture, Iași.

🫀 Building the Future of Artificial Organs: Beyond Science to Ecosystems

"The MCS and ESAO communities share one powerful mission: keeping patients alive with technology that didn’t exist a generation ago."

We are deeply honored to announce that Professor Shaun Gregory, Director of the QUT (Australia) Centre for Biomedical Research, is a confirmed keynote speaker for the 52nd ESAO Congress in Iași. 🇷🇴

As Professor Gregory states, our gathering this September is about more than just data and laboratory results. It is about building big visions, sustainable programs, and life-changing ecosystems.

Through groundbreaking initiatives like the Artificial Heart Frontiers Program and the global Heart Hackathon, we see how the future is shaped not just by equations, but by the lessons learned along the way and the communities we build together.

We invite the innovators, the builders, and the dreamers to join us in Iași to help bridge the gap between today’s technology and tomorrow’s clinical reality.
