ESAO 2026 – Plenary Keynote Announcement

We are honoured to welcome Prof. Dr. med. habil. Max J. Hilz to Iași this September for his plenary keynote, "Autonomic Brain–Heart Interaction."

Few people have shaped a field the way Prof. Hilz has shaped autonomic neurology. Co-chair of the Autonomic Nervous System Panel of the European Academy of Neurology, Past-President of both the German Autonomic Society and the European Federation of Autonomic Societies, and Past-Chair of the Autonomic Section of the American Academy of Neurology, his career reads like the map of the discipline itself.

Over decades of academic leadership at Mount Sinai, NYU, UCL, and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, he helped write the very definitions the field runs on, from orthostatic hypotension to POTS, authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, and mentored generations of researchers across Germany and the US.
