At BTH PDRL we do research and education within digital product/production development. Head is Professor Tobias Larsson.

The Product Development Research Laboratory is the research unit of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Research has been carried out in this field at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) since the start. The unit is active in research, education and collaboration, and is a specialized unit with in-depth knowledge on digital modelling and simulation. Our work is focused on activities that build product/production development competence and support the development of innovative, sustainable products for the future sustainability society.

Satellite data is free, abundant, and largely untapped by the people who could benefit most from it.

BTH and Luleå University of Technology have started a collaboration to change that. Students in Transformative PSS Innovation at BTH and Co-Design Studio at LTU will turn open satellite data into product-service systems built for real users — not concepts on paper, but prototypes using real data from real sources.

The LTU team spent two days with us in Karlskrona last week, including a tour of our visualization and virtual prototyping lab, VPSLx.

"This challenge asks the students to define what value might be for a user they first have to uncover — in other words, to build the right 'it'. I'm very curious to see what solutions they come up with." Says Christian Johansson Askling, teacher/coach for the BTH team

Submarine capabilities in research and education

Blekinge Institute of Technology and EmbeddedArt AB have a collaboration agreement where the Malen submarine (with its onboard experimental technology platform) is available for research and education efforts.

During a day at BTH CEO Jörgen Juhlin and staff demonstrated the capabilities of Malen and discussed connectivity, underwater operation, and also future plans, for researchers and teachers from Product Development Research Lab | Mechanical Engineering | BTH Systems Engineering BTH, and Software Engineering representing also the engineering educations of Marine and Mechanical Engineering.
