With cost and efficiency as the core of our development strategy under our inhouse R&D division, we had successfully developed and manufactured the world first tri-metal contact rivets which combined 3 different metal material into a single contact rivet component and had since supplied to reputable companies in multiple industries. When we receive a technical drawing for quotation, our first question is not simply:

“What will it cost to manufacture?”

We also ask:
“Is there a more competitive way to manufacture it?” 💡

Before proceeding with the conventional quotation process, our engineering team considers the application, rated voltage/current, endurance requirements and operating conditions—then evaluates five critical areas:

Material — Is the specification necessary or over-specified?
Geometry — Can precious-metal usage be optimized?
Construction — Solid, bi-metal, tri-metal or composite?
Process — Is there a more efficient manufacturing route?
Assembly — Can downstream operations be simplified?

From this assessment, we develop different engineering routes—from a conservative, lower-risk solution to a more cost-optimized and competitive alternative.

Cost Transparency Starts with Verification

We've occasionally seen situations where a quotation for a silver alloy electrical contact is compared with another that is significantly lower in price.

Before concluding that one is simply "more expensive," it's worth asking:

Are both quotations really based on the same product?

For silver alloy contacts, the silver material itself typically accounts for over 90% of the total material cost. Large price differences often indicate differences in material grade, silver content, dimensions, or construction—not just manufacturing efficiency.

That's why, whenever possible, we encourage customers to provide both the technical drawing and a production sample.

Our laboratory can verify:

✓ Silver alloy composition
✓ Actual silver content
✓ Dimensions and tolerances
✓ Material construction
✓ Compliance with the drawing specification

In one case, a drawing specified AgSnO10, but laboratory analysis of the production sample identified it as AgSnO20—a 10% increase in silver content that has a significant impact on material cost.
Without verification, quotations may be based on different assumptions, making price comparisons misleading.
