This japanese-influenced home located in the outskirt desert area, doubled as a sanctuary was given a remodeling. The space was reimagined using emerald green and navy blue tones combined with bronze accents and wooden elements altogether, for its new kitchen and main suite, among other changes within the house.

The kitchen islands & countertops situated amongst the single floor, around a central patio were beautifully installed with large format solid surface material & porcelain marble tiles. It was then applied with similar colour scheme grout to create a well hidden & seamless appearance, creating a cozy and visually exquisite atmosphere to the living spaces.

Screeding is done to level and smooth out floor surfaces before floor finishes are laid out. There’re 2 types of screed commonly used: Bonded & Unbonded. They’re typically bonded onto most concrete surfaces, and bonded screed are generally used for almost every flooring. They’re a mixture of portland cement & sand mix which needs to be at least 20mm thick.

Unbonded screed is used in special occasions when floor finishes needs to be separated from the respective structure. Consisting such as heavy or large movements on the structure or substrate, rising moisture from the ground and more. They’re laid with a separation layer from the subtrate, and it needs to be at least 40mm thick regardless of the mortar type.

Pro Tip: Unbonded screed that’s more than 40mm thick needs to implement steel reinforcement mesh.

This boutique hotel is every literature lover’s dream, featuring Victorian elements with bold colours, patterns, & textures. While taking direct inspiration & adaptation from Oscar Wilde’s classic hit novel - “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.

In the Prologue’s Lobby Bar space, a mix of Christmas-inspired shades of penny & mosaic tiles were laid to complement classic tartan & houndstooth patterns, adding dimensions overall. Throughout the hotel spaces, various tiles were laid out in mixed formats i.e. herringbone, vertical & horizontal stack bond.

What takes the icing on the cake is that uniquely angular cut tiles were installed all around the hotel lobby, evoking an elegant yet classic look and feel along with faceted brass fixtures, aligning to the Victorian period.

Drawing inspiration from the location’s subarctic climate, this hotel was refurbished as a winter wonderland, comprising of icy palette evoking hues of snow and sky.

A mix of Bauhaus-inflected shape designed tiles were cut with curved edges and were then installed in unique & intricate layouts - circular formats across the lounge and reception areas.

It was then paired with cement screed flooring to give off a natural & industrial chic appearance. Showcasing the stunning lines of these odd-shaped tiles & grout used!

Hexagon timber tiles were also installed along the hotel's restaurant spaces in overlapping arrangements with the edges fitted altogether, creating a fluid flow of lines as a whole.

Installation of paving stones may be an uncommon sight in Singapore as they're mostly used for outdoors and larger areas' tile installations i.e Driveways, Car Porches, Patios and more.

As shown in these images, this house consists of a long driveway entrance leading up to the garden and the house's main areas.

Earthly toned natural stones were laid throughout the driveway, with the stones installed in staggered layout for the flooring along with contrasting shapes and in random layout to create defined borders for the walls.

The cobblestone texture of these stones helps to provide a rustic yet mediterranean look that evoke a cozy atmosphere and timeless feel overall.
