Makerspace Learning Journey & Prototyping Clinic
Bridging the Gap from Idea to Reality

Turning a great idea into a working prototype can be one of the toughest — and most exciting — parts of the invention journey. To support students participating in the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award, Vivita Singapore is hosting a hands-on Makerspace Learning Journey & Prototyping Clinic designed to help young inventors move confidently from concept to creation.

Held at our community creative studio, Vivistop Kampong Eunos, this immersive three-hour session introduces students to real-world making tools, digital fabrication technologies, and creative upcycling techniques that can bring their ideas to life.

What Students Will Experience

🔧 Makerspace Guided Tour
Explore our fully equipped makerspace and discover how digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters work alongside traditional tools to support modern prototyping.

🛠 Hands-On Technical Stations
Participants will rotate through 2–3 specialized tool stations, gaining practical exposure to new skills and techniques they can apply directly to their own invention projects.

💡 Group Consultation Clinic
In a collaborative sharing session, students will present their project ideas to experienced makers and mentors. They’ll receive constructive feedback, guidance on efficient prototyping methods, and alternative approaches to making their ideas more feasible.

Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm

Location: Vivistop Kampong Eunos Makerspace

Target Audience: Students aged 9–16 years old

Capacity: Maximum 30 participants

Registration Fee: $25 (Subsidized by the Tan Kah Kee Foundation)

How to Prepare

To make the most of the group consultation clinic, students are encouraged to bring along sketches, project notes, or early-stage prototypes. This allows our mentors to offer specific, actionable advice tailored to each student’s invention.

We are glad to announce that Vivita Singapore will be supporting Amazon Web Services to organise a year-long community STEM program, the Amazon Think Big Program, in Singapore for 2026!

The goal of the program is to inspire children and youth in our community to be future builders and innovators, making STEM education more accessible and inclusive. With this objective, we will be running a series of bite-sized and fun workshops at the NLB regional libraries throughout the year, in the themese of AI, robotics, coding and cloud. We will also work with various charities and community organisations to bring the program to children and youths who lack opportunities.

It’s been great to partner with Amazon in this project to impact the community, and empower the next generation to be confident and Think Big.

We have started our first session on 24 January 2026, and it was very well received by the participants! It is heartwarming that we have 2 Vivinauts assisting the program as facilitators as well.

We have more workshops and community sessions coming up soon until June in NLB Singapore Punggol Regional Library, before the program move to another part of Singapore. We’d love for your child to be part of the next one, especially if you live near there.

One of our members wrote on our message board: "Selling stuff is fun." So happy to see that! 😂

As we write our final post of 2025, highlighting the Makers' Market last month was meaningful as it is representative of what we do.

This market wasn't just a one-day event. It started way back in February with a question to the children: "If we do a big year-end event, what do YOU want?"

They didn't want just a showcase. They wanted a market. They wanted to learn how to sell, how to run a booth, on top of showing what they like to make.

And we journeyed with them to make it happen.

From 3D design workshops taught by kids to quirky game booths that reflected their personalities, the day was filled with creative freedom and kids' authenticity.

Amidst the chaos, we put up a simple cardboard installation and left out some silver markers for the members and visitors to leave their thoughts. Reading the messages now is the best way to close the year:

"Always believe!"
"Vivita -> The Joy of Making"
"Thank you for this space"

To every parent, volunteer, and partner who visited, bought a handmade product, or just encouraged a nervous young entrepreneur: Thank you. You helped create that joy.

Learning from children - literally 🥳

To welcome more volunteers to support our activities, we recently organised an onboarding session to familiraise them with the equipment at our community makerspace.

And the teachers of the day? Our Vivita members! 🙌

They were sharing their knowledge and skills in cardboard prototyping, sewing, 3d modelling, robotics and plastic upcycling to a group of parents, who were curiously learning. At the same time, the parent volunteers were experiencing how it is like to be like their children at Vivita, learning via exploring and tinkering, and learning from each other too.

Happy to see the spirit of learning together sprouting at our little kampong 🪴

Our Co-Founder, Lee Hoi Leong, shared his perspectives in this "Playing to our Children's Strength" podcast with the National Institute of Early Childhood Development and Beanstalk ECDA.

- Let's nurture curiosity and creativity in children by encouraging play and exploration beyond structured learning.
- Recognize failure as a stepping stone to growth, fostering resilience and innovation in children.
- Empower children by giving them and supporting their choices to build confidence and independence.

A unique cybersecurity learning journey at Cisco Singapore!

With the support of the Cisco CX team in Singapore, in August we brought a group of Vivita members to Cisco's office exposing them to . Children managed to take a peek at what the office of a tech company is like, such the cool communication and collaboration tools to facilitate working across countries. They also went through an experience of how cyberattacks and cyber defense work in the real world, directly from the professionals themselves. They grabbed themselves a cool t-shirt and cisco cap too!

A big thanks to the Cisco CX team to be so game to do this fun project with us, to expose more children to . Special mention to Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore in introducing us to Cisco!

Thanks to our friend of Vivita, Cesar Jung-Harada, a few weeks ago a number of Vivinauts and their parents had an opportunity to participate in the preparation of an exhibit of a future ocean city at ArtScience Museum!

We made wallpaper glue, did paper marche on a steel structure, painted and sanded down the models. A fun and meaningful day building something big and real! The members had a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes of preparing for an exhibition, and had an opportunity to listen to Cesar sharing about his vision and designs.

Thanks to all the Vivinaut and parents who participate in this community project 😀 Go and take a look and see how it is like!

The exhibition "Cesar Jung-Harada: An Ocean City Imagined" started on 21 September and will be on until 27 October at ArtScience Museum! Check it out!
