Does living alone mean facing emergencies alone?

As more people live independently, Singapore is seeing a rise in cases where elderly individuals pass away at home and are only discovered much later. This student team from Nanyang Polytechnic set out to explore how emergencies could be detected earlier without compromising independence or privacy.

Guided by their formal curriculum which integrates Shell NXplorers tools, the team developed KinetiCare: a discreet, sensor based system that detects unusual inactivity during everyday routines and sends alerts to neighbours or authorities when something may be amiss.

How can we give limited resources like water a second life? 💧

A student team from Nanyang Polytechnic explored this challenge using tools from Shell NXplorers, creating a greywater recycling concept that redirects shower water for other uses such as toilet flushing. The idea aims to enable households to reduce clean water use and lower utility costs.

Their simple yet innovative idea earned them awards at the Innovation & Enterprise (I&E) Fest, where Nanyang Polytechnic students showcased their prototypes developed through the integrated Shell NXplorers–NYP curriculum. The recognition highlighted the team’s ability to turn everyday processes into practical, people-centric solutions.
