What if art wasn’t bought, but earned through giving back?

is reimagining how we engage with art and community. Their latest exhibition, Marking Matters?: Marking Punggol, invites everyday people to make a positive impact.

Instead of purchasing artworks, visitors pledge volunteer hours to charities and non-profits in Punggol. In return, you get the opportunity to collect a piece. 😍

💫 Better.sg volunteers helped power this exchange by building the webapp that collects these pledges, making it easy for anyone to turn intention into action.

If you’re in the area, drop by The Cove at Waterway Point before 29 Mar, 10pm to view the 99 artworks and uncover stories behind each pledge!

It’s getting harder to tell what’s real, especially for those who aren’t as tech-savvy. 🔍

At Better Socials this week, Bing Wen Tan from shared the reality of building a tech-for-good venture. From navigating the "funding gap" between VCs and charities to restructuring their code, it’s been a journey of constant adaptation.

Key highlights from the sharing:
1️⃣ The Funding Gap: Finding a middle ground between VCs and traditional charities.
2️⃣ The Architecture: Moving to microservices so volunteers can build without breaking the code.
3️⃣ The Pivot: Shifting focus to the community of checkers who are the heart of the product.

Checkmate is currently available in English and Chinese, using a mix of AI agents and human verification to catch misinformation before it spreads.
