🧲 Kerr at 150: A Community Mosaic — the deadline is approaching! 🧲

2026 marks 150 years since John Kerr’s discovery of the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) — a milestone that transformed how we image and understand magnetism.

Together with Students in Magnetism (SiM) and INTERMAG 2026, we are building a community mosaic of Kerr images from across the magnetics field: domain walls, skyrmions, thin films, bulk crystals, hysteresis loops, and more.

✨ We warmly encourage you to participate and share one (or more!) Kerr image(s), together with the story behind them: what you imaged, under which conditions, and why it matters. Scientific significance, beautiful patterns, unexpected results, or simply meaningful moments in your research journey — all are welcome.

Let’s “MOKE it count” 😉

📅 Submission deadline: 31 May 2026‼️

⚠️ By submitting, you confirm that you have the right to share the image.

🖼️🎨 Congratulations to the winner and finalists of the Most Compelling Image Award at !

Their contributions captured not only outstanding science, but also the striking beauty, complexity, creativity, and imagination within the magnetics community. From intricate magnetic textures to mesmerizing experimental patterns, these images reminded us that magnetism research can be both scientifically powerful and visually extraordinary.

✨ Scientific images have a unique ability to make invisible phenomena visible, helping us communicate, understand, and share the fascination of magnetism with the wider community.

👏 Thank you all for contributing such engaging and inspiring images and for showcasing the artistic and creative side of magnetism in such a remarkable way.

🧲 Kerr at 150: A Community Mosaic — deadline extended! 🧲

2026 marks 150 years since John Kerr’s discovery of the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) — a milestone that changed how we image and understand magnetism.

Let’s “MOKE it count”. 😉

Together with Students in Magnetism (SiM) and INTERMAG 2026, we’re building a community mosaic of Kerr images: from domain walls to skyrmions, thin films to bulk crystals, and hysteresis loops that capture magnetic responses.

✨ Submit one (or more!) Kerr image(s) and the story behind them: what you imaged, under which conditions, and why it matters. Captions, context, and backstory are all welcome.

📅 New deadline: 31 May 2026 (extended)‼️

⚠️ By submitting, you confirm you have the right to share the image.
