Call for Urgent Financial Audit of South Sudan Chamber of Commerce
By Yel Ateny | Youths Concerned
The South Sudan National Chamber of Commerce has never undergone a financial audit since its establishment — a troubling lapse that raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the proper management of public and institutional funds.
Tasked with representing the interests of the private sector and upholding fair business practices, the Chamber plays a critical role in shaping the country’s economic landscape. Yet, without any form of financial oversight, concerns of corruption and mismanagement loom large.
The absence of auditing not only erodes public trust but also casts a shadow over South Sudan's investment climate. In an economy striving to attract both domestic and international investors, such institutional opacity can be deeply damaging to national credibility and the broader business environment.
In light of this, we, the Youths Concerned, are calling on the Ministry of Finance and the National Audit Chamber to immediately initiate a comprehensive audit of the South Sudan National Chamber of Commerce — from its inception to the present day.
A full financial audit is essential to:
Uncover any possible misuse or misappropriation of funds;
Reinforce principles of transparency and accountability;
Rebuild confidence among stakeholders and investors;
And set the institution on a path of sound financial management going forward.
Auditing is not a discretionary process. It is a national obligation and a cornerstone of responsible governance. The business community — and the South Sudanese people — deserve nothing less.
