Why you need multifactor authentication
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is an additional layer of security. It works by requiring at least two pieces of evidence to prove that you are you.
Your password is the first piece of evidence. The second could be any of these:
Your fingerprint scanned on your device
A limited-time verification code sent to your email
A unique code sent via SMS or text message
So even if someone manages to steal your password, they can’t access your account without the second piece of the puzzle.
