🇸🇸 South Sudan’s Oil Production Surpasses 170,000 Barrels Per Day

South Sudan’s petroleum sector has achieved a significant milestone, with oil production increasing from approximately 100,000 barrels per day to more than 170,000 barrels per day.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum, the growth is the result of continued investment, successful drilling campaigns, and improved performance across key oil fields. New wells developed in producing blocks have contributed substantially to the increase, demonstrating the country’s ongoing potential as a major energy producer in East Africa.

The achievement is expected to strengthen South Sudan’s economy by increasing government revenues, supporting infrastructure development, and creating new opportunities for investment within the energy sector.

Officials have emphasized their commitment to sustaining production growth through further exploration, technological advancement, and collaboration with industry partners. The ministry believes that continued development of the country’s petroleum resources will play a crucial role in driving long-term economic growth and energy security.

South Sudan oil production increases to 60,000 barrels per day

The Ministry of Petroleum revealed that the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) has increased oil production from 44,000 to 60,000 barrels per day.

The pronouncement was made today during the meeting between President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, Eng. Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar, the Managing Director of Nilepet, Hon. Emmanuel Athiei Ayual and other oil stakeholders.

According to the statement obtained from the office of the President, the head of state welcomed the increasement in oil production.

“Officials reported that GPOC has increased crude oil production from 44,000 barrels per day to 60,000 barrels per day, marking the highest production level recorded by the company since it began operations in South Sudan in 2005,” the statement partly.

President Kiir welcomed the achievement and encouraged continued collaboration between government institutions and oil operators to improve efficiency, expand production, and maximize the benefits of the country’s petroleum resources for the people of South Sudan.

🚨 A transformative development for East Africa's energy sector.

Reports indicate that industrialist Aliko Dangote is exploring plans for a major regional oil refinery in East Africa, with support from regional leaders. If realized, the project could significantly strengthen local refining capacity, enhance energy security, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products, and create new opportunities for investment, trade, and industrial growth across the region.
