Cooling tower คืออุปกรณ์ในการแลกเปลี่ยนความร้อน โดยใช้วิธีการระเหยตัวของน้ำ (Evaporator) ซึ่งในกระบวนการจะมีการสูญเสียน้ำออกไปบ้าง แต่น้ำส่วนใหญ่ยังคงหมุนเวียน (Circulate) อยู่ในระบบแลกเปลี่ยนอุณภูมิ โดยส่วนมากจะใช้ในการแลกเปลี่ยนความร้อนจากระบบปรับอากาศภายในอาคาร ( HVAC ) หรือ ลดอุณหภูมิในกระบวนการผลิต ( Processing ) ซึ่งต้องดูแลระดับคุณภาพน้ำในระบบเพื่อป้องกันการเกิดปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อการแลกเปลี่ยนความร้อนเช่น ตะกรัน,สนิม,ตะไคร่น้ำ ฯ
