Join us in very warmly welcoming Sumitomo Electric's first official character, our new friend 'Sumeedy'.

Sumeedy is a visual representation of several of our brand’s characteristics. His body is composed of multiple intertwined strands, which symbolize the diverse technologies that the Sumitomo Electric Group has developed over the years.

As for his name, it is a combination of sounds from how the company is commonly referred to in Japan, “Sumitomo Denko.” The name was selected from 589 ideas submitted by employees.

This mysterious creature was born one day from copper wire, the origin of our business.

Its body, made of layers of coiled wire, represents the diverse technologies that the Sumitomo Electric Group has developed over time. Its large ears can hear voices from afar and voices of all kinds.

Legs like springs run tirelessly to support people’s daily lives.

Its tail is said to serve as an antenna connecting us to the future. That form embodies Sumitomo Electric itself: connecting the world, daily life, and the future.
