Happy African Emancipation Day!

As we prepare to observe African Emancipation Day this Saturday, our National Energy family came together in a way that feels uniquely Trinbagonian - around the pot.

From bubbling pelau and hearty oil-down to refreshing mauby brewed from the bark and homemade cassava pone, we celebrated some of the rich culinary traditions that form part of the enduring legacy and contribution of the African community to Trinidad and Tobago.

As we head into the Emancipation weekend, we do so with gratitude, reflection and pride. 🇹🇹❤️🤍 🖤

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐭? 🫢

Because sometimes, that’s the smartest way to protect critical infrastructure.

At Savonetta Pier 1, we’re installing sacrificial anodes. These are special blocks of metal designed to corrode before the pier’s steel piles do. In simple terms, they “take the damage” so the structure doesn’t have to.

𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑡 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠:

▶️ The anodes are like the sacrificial tread on a car tyre - they wear out so something far more valuable lasts longer.

▶️ Instead of replacing major sections of a pier, we replace the anodes.

▶️ It’s a simple idea that helps extend the life of the facility, reduces future repair costs and keeps one of our key marine assets operating safely.

𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐞. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝

In January last year, we announced the completion of our Recycling Hub at the Port of Galeota ( https://tinyurl.com/ysyuzevy ). But it wasn’t until May 2025 that we officially began tracking the recyclable materials collected.

One year later, here’s the impact:

✅267 kg of recyclable waste collected
✅138 kg of plastic (about 4,500 plastic water bottles)
✅88 kg of glass (about 220 glass bottles)
✅29 kg of aluminum (about 2,000 drink cans)
✅12 kg of paper (about 2,400 sheets of office paper)

The small choices we make every day can indeed have the biggest impact.

𝐈𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞

Protecting a port takes more than security officers. During National Energy’s recent ISPS exercises at Savonetta Piers and Port of Galeota, teams across the company worked together to test how we would respond to a simulated security threat. From Operations and Security to Corporate Communications, support services and our partner agencies, every role mattered.

These exercises are about much more than security. They test how we communicate, make decisions, control access, share information and work together under pressure, helping to ensure our people, systems and procedures are ready when called upon. While these drills lasts hours, the preparation takes months.

⏱️ CLOCK IT!

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟏,𝟕𝟎𝟎 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Since joining the National Energy fleet earlier this year, the 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝑉𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑑 and 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝐸𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 have together clocked 1,707 hours on the water.

Those hours are not simply time on a clock. They are building experience.

No two marine operations are exactly the same. Every vessel, movement and sea condition brings a different challenge, giving our captains and tug crews even more hands-on experience safely berthing, unberthing, towing, escorting and supporting the needs of our clients.
