Trinidad & Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) wishes to respond to an article published by the Trinidad Express Newspaper Limited on Tuesday October 28th 2025, captioned “Close Call for Family as Gas Tank Explodes”.

Regarding the claims made, NP wishes to state the facts relating to this matter. On Sunday, October 25th, NP’s Safety Personnel were informed by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services of an incident at a home in Bon Accord, Tobago and that the findings were as follows:

· The NP LPG gas cylinders did not explode and was found to be intact with no sign of being affected by fire or intense heat.
· The NP LPG gas cylinder was found to still be filled with LPG.
· Neither the NP LPG gas cylinder, regulator nor the hose, as determined by a thorough soapy water test conducted, presented any leaks.
· A soapy water test was also conducted on the ring stove used in the kitchen and it was determined that a leak was present on one of the pipes.
· The regulator used was not the type recommended by NP.

In light of this incident, NP wishes to reaffirm its commitment to the safety of LPG users and we urge customers to conduct the recommended safety checks when engaging with LPG cylinders, as well as only use equipment which meet the approved standard i.e. 125 psi hoses and regulators bearing the codes EN 12864 or EN16129.

NP remains available to address concerns regarding LPG cylinders and reminds customers to contact 800-NPMC and 686-NPMC (WhatsApp) for reporting issues, thereby enabling the Company to provide support or assistance, where applicable.
