From 1965 to 2023, global renewable energy output has significantly increased from approximately 150 TWh to over 7,000 TWh (IEA). This reflects a global strategic shift towards sustainable energy sources and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Leading Countries:
♦️ China: Over 2,300 TWh of renewable energy in 2023 (IRENA).
♦️ United States: Approximately 1,100 TWh, prominently featuring wind and solar energy (EIA).
♦️ European Union: Nearly 950 TWh thanks to green policies (Eurostat).
Wind energy has become an essential component of the global renewable energy sector, accounting for about 25% of total renewable energy output worldwide in 2023 (GWEC). Countries like Germany, Spain, and India have robustly developed both onshore and offshore wind farms, significantly contributing to total renewable capacity. The average annual growth rate of renewable energy, including wind power, during this period has been around 6-8% (BP Statistical Review).
In Vietnam, the wind energy sector is also experiencing significant growth, with a capacity of approximately 1,400 MW as of 2023, primarily from coastal provinces like Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan (Ministry of Industry and Trade report). The Vietnamese government aims to increase this capacity to 6,000 MW by 2030, tapping into its potential of over 160 GW of wind energy, especially from offshore projects (Vietnam's Renewable Energy Development Program).
The continuous development of wind turbine technology and supportive policies will play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. In the coming years, it is forecasted that global wind energy will continue to expand significantly, potentially reaching around 2,200 GW by 2025 and over 3,400 GW by 2030 (GWEC). With the strong growth of energy storage and integrated solutions, wind energy promises to become a key pillar in building a sustainable global energy system, in which Vietnam is also expected to make significant contributions to this development.

♦️ 中國:2023年可再生能源超過2,300 TWh(國際可再生能源署IRENA)。
