CREEC-Makerere The Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) is a not-for-profit organization for research, training and consultancy.

The Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) is a not-for-profit organization, located at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology within Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The centre focuses on the thematic areas of rural electrification, energy for productive use, household energy and energy entrepreneurship with energy management as a cross-cutting theme.

At the end of 2013, CREEC strategically reorganized its four departments (Bioenergy, Solar Photovoltaic, Pico-hydro and Energy Management) into two: Project Engineering and Testing Services. The latter does independent testing of improved cookstoves and solar PV equipment in accordance with internationally accepted testing methods and supports clients in product development and improvement. The Project Engineering department undertakes project implementation, supervision and consultancies on projects in the thematic areas. On the cookstove testing front; CREEC, a partner to the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC), is recognized as an independent Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre (RTKC) offering stove and fuel testing services to manufacturers and promoters using globally accepted testing procedures. The RTKC has conducted several stove tests; most recently, the GIZ EnDev supported testing of three stove models to assess the performance of the stoves in three different environments (CREEC lab, Aprovecho lab in the USA and a Ugandan household) and to enable inter-laboratory comparison. CREEC is a member of the National Executive Committee of the Uganda National Alliance of Clean cooking (UNACC) which is affiliated to the GACC, and the centre is leading the Standards and Testing taskforce.

Your kitchen could be costing you more than you think. ⚡🍳
The appliances you use every day play a big role in how much energy you consume, how comfortable your kitchen feels, and even how much time you spend cooking.
Here are two simple ways to modernize your kitchen and improve efficiency:
✅ Match the appliance to the meal
Use the right tool for the right task. For example, an Electric Pressure Cooker (EPC) works best for foods that take longer to cook, while smaller appliances are ideal for quick meals and snacks.
✅ Prioritize energy efficiency
Before buying any appliance, check for energy rating labels to ensure it is designed to save power while delivering better performance.
Small changes in the kitchen can lead to big savings over time — for your wallet and for the environment. 🌍⚡

Knowledge and evidence are essential in shaping policies that accelerate sustainable development.
CREEC participated in the dissemination event organized by NREP on the Baseline Study on Social and Behavior Change and the Policy Landscape on Regenerative Agriculture and the Productive Use of Renewable Energy. The event provided an important platform to reflect on how evidence can guide more effective policy design and implementation.
During the event, CREEC also contributed to a panel discussion highlighting how data and insights generated from initiatives such as the Power for Food Program can be institutionalized within government systems. Through structured and relevant knowledge management systems, such information can support inter-ministerial working committees with timely evidence to inform policy decisions and strengthen program implementation.
Strengthening the link between research, data, and policy processes is key to ensuring that renewable energy solutions effectively support productive sectors such as agriculture.
CREEC remains committed to working with partners to ensure that knowledge generated through programs and research contributes meaningfully to evidence-based decision-making and sustainable energy access.
