With freezing weather on the way this weekend, we’ve put together a few tips to help prevent plumbing issues in your home:
• Disconnect and Drain Outdoor Hoses
Before the cold weather starts, disconnect and drain all outdoor hoses. You can store them indoors or in a sheltered area.
• Insulate and Cover Pipes
Install hard covers on outdoor faucets and wrap pipes that run through attics, crawl spaces, unheated garages, or outside walls with pipe insulation, heating tape, or foam molded covers.
• Maintain a Consistent Temperature
Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature, even when you're away from home. You can also consider installing a smart thermostat that allows you to monitor and adjust the temperature remotely.
• Open Cabinet Doors
Keep cabinet doors open to fixtures bordered on exterior walls.
• Prepare an Emergency Supply
Build an emergency supply of water, flashlights, batteries and non-perishable foods in case your service is interrupted by extreme weather.
• Schedule a Winter Plumbing Check-Up
Consider scheduling a winter plumbing check-up to inspect your plumbing system and identify potential issues.
