📢 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS — JoVE TOPICAL COLLECTION

I am pleased to serve as Guest Editor for a new Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) Topical Collection:

Translational Nitric Oxide Research: Validated Methods for Measurement, Delivery, and Therapeutic Development

We are now seeking submissions in areas including:

🔬 Measurement of nitric oxide and nitrate/nitrite in biological samples

🧪 Chemiluminescence, electrochemistry, spectroscopy, biosensors, and emerging analytical methods

⌚ Validation of wearable and noninvasive NO-related technologies

💊 NO donors, targeted compounds, biomaterials, nanoparticles, topical and inhaled delivery systems

📈 Release kinetics, pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, and pharmacodynamics

🧬 Cancer, cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, wound healing, infectious disease, inflammation, and other translational applications

The central question is:

If an intervention claims to generate, deliver, or alter nitric oxide biology, can we measure it, validate it, determine where it goes, and connect it to a biological or clinical effect?

Why did I take this on?

After more than three decades in experimental and translational research, one problem continues to frustrate me: reproducibility.

How many times have you read the methods section of a paper, tried to reproduce the experiment in your laboratory—and simply could not?

Sometimes the difference between success and failure is a small procedural detail that is difficult to communicate in text alone.

That is what makes JoVE different.

JoVE combines a peer-reviewed scientific manuscript with the opportunity to visually demonstrate how an experiment is actually performed. Their production network can work with researchers to document laboratory procedures, making science more transparent and helping other investigators reproduce and adopt those methods.

I believe visual scientific publishing can significantly improve reproducibility, method transfer, training, collaboration, and ultimately translation.

JoVE accepts Method Articles as well as Research Articles, Case Reports, and Rapid Reports, so submissions are not limited to methods papers.

The standard open access fee is $2,400, which is very reasonable compared with many scientific journals today, particularly given JoVE’s unique visual approach.

Most importantly, I believe this is where scientific publishing is heading.

If you work in nitric oxide biology, analytical chemistry, pharmacology, drug delivery, oncology, vascular biology, biomaterials, wound healing, or translational medicine, I encourage you to consider submitting.

🥊 The Rocky story continues.

I’m pleased to announce that the Nitric Oxide Services, LLC and Bauer Research Foundation, Inc. will be participating in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Charlotte Regional Biomedical Sciences Symposium 2026: Collaborations Driving Innovations for Impact.

Our work,

“Selective blood-brain barrier pe*******on and tumor targeting of nitrosylcobalamin in glioblastoma: Pharmacokinetics, tissue distribution, and synergistic activity with TRAIL and temozolomide”

has been selected for presentation at this year’s symposium.

For me, this is about much more than another scientific presentation.

The nitrosylcobalamin story has been a long one—years of research, discovery, setbacks, unexpected turns, and plenty of moments when it would have been easier to simply walk away.

But sometimes science requires you to keep getting back up.

That is why I have called this our “Rocky” story.

The science is still standing.

And now, with renewed publications, renewed interest, and new opportunities for collaboration, we believe the next chapter may be just beginning.

The theme of this symposium—Collaborations Driving Innovations for Impact—could not be more appropriate.

The Bauer Research Foundation is actively interested in connecting with investigators, clinicians, institutions, and biotechnology partners working in:

Nitrosylcobalamin (NO-Cbl) may offer a true double hit against cancer.

First, it is designed to exploit CD320-mediated uptake of cobalamin compounds, helping deliver NO-Cbl into tumor cells. Second, our newly published study showed that NO-Cbl can work synergistically with TRAIL and temozolomide, supporting its potential to enhance apoptotic signaling while countering resistance pathways.

In glioblastoma, that matters. Too often, patients receive standard chemotherapy in fixed cycles, only to face tumors that become less responsive over time. By contrast, NO-Cbl was developed as an NO-releasing cobalamin analog that selectively targets tumors through the transcobalamin II receptor (CD320) system, crossed the blood-brain barrier in this study, accumulated in tumor tissue, and showed synergy with both TRAIL and TMZ in glioma cells.

That is why this platform is so important: not just cytotoxic activity, but a strategy that may combine targeted uptake, apoptosis promotion, and suppression of survival signaling in one therapeutic approach. This mechanistic model is part of why we believe NO-Cbl deserves serious attention as a next-generation anticancer strategy.
