One of the most common dryer vent problems we find isn’t inside the vent system — it’s right behind the dryer.

On a recent service call in the Philadelphia area, we pulled the dryer away from the wall and found lint scattered across the floor and surrounding surfaces. The culprit was a crushed foil connector hose that had been restricting airflow and allowing lint to escape behind the dryer.

When airflow is restricted, lint builds up where it shouldn’t. Drying times increase, the dryer runs hotter, and the risk of a dryer fire increases.

We see this issue regularly in homes with older foil vent hoses. The ridges collect lint, they’re easily crushed when the dryer is pushed back into place, and they don’t perform as well as modern code-compliant vent materials.

If your clothes are taking longer to dry, your dryer feels unusually hot, or you haven’t had your dryer vent inspected in years, it may be time to have the system checked.

This homeowner had no idea there was this much lint accumulating behind the dryer until we moved it.

Most homeowners never see what’s happening behind their dryer… until there’s a problem.

This customer’s old foil dryer vent had torn open and was blowing hot, humid dryer exhaust directly into the home.

Problems like this can lead to:
❌ Hidden lint buildup
❌ Moisture inside the home
❌ Reduced dryer efficiency
❌ Potential fire hazards

We replaced it with a stronger, code-compliant dryer vent connection designed for safer airflow and long-term durability.

Some warning signs can include:
• Clothes taking longer to dry
• Excess heat in the laundry area
• A hot or burning smell
• Higher energy usage

But in many homes, damaged or unsafe dryer vents show little to no obvious signs until the issue becomes serious.

Older foil or plastic-style venting can tear, crush, trap lint, and wear down over time.
