A stable community is a happy community, above and below ground. SPC Geotechnical, Inc.’s repair design using micropiles allows for more rigid support under the foundation of these hillside condominiums. Micropiles are a deep foundation system consisting of steel rods grouted into place. Once grouted, the exposed tops of the micropiles are connected to the condos’ foundation, providing stability against future earth movement.

The condominium building foundations had been affected by slope movement, causing settlement and damage. Like many hillside homes, the units were showing signs of distress in the form of slab separations, interior wall/ceiling cracking, and foundation cracking. Once fully installed, SPC Geotechnical, Inc.’s design solution using micropiles will provide much needed stability to this neighborhood.

Below-ground infiltration chambers are being installed beneath a future parking lot at one of our ongoing projects. Stormwater will be collected and directed to the orange infiltration chambers where it is then filtered and temporarily stored until it percolates into the ground. The infiltration system is intended to reduce impact to the regional storm drain system and retain the filtered stormwater on-site, replenishing Southern California’s parched groundwater table.
