7/28/26 update: Those of you that know me, know I love anything that feels like a treasure hunt - rock hounding, thrift store shopping, etc. Today my intern ran some 10 year old samples on the GCMS. These are experiments I did with students at Dakota Wesleyan University in 2015, but their GCMS was not behaving, so we couldn't run them at the time. I have carried those samples for 10 years - through 3 moves - and a solvent spill that made the place smell like ethyl acetate but I didn't know where it was coming from... I would question my logic in keeping these old samples, but didn't have the heart to throw away a year's worth of work.

So, today... the hidden mysteries began to unfold. And the results are just what I had expected to see 10 years ago. WOW! Not only did I get what I hoped, but it lasted in those random small vials and bottles for that long. Now, granted, we have just begun to review the results. So, not all the results may be so perfect, but hey - I'll take what I can get at this point.

The lovely Warren Wilson College has become my partner in this adventure. I have hired an Environmental Science major to run the GC/MS for me. This is the instrument used to confirm the target chemistry of my product. What a blessing - not only to have such a smart and capable student, but to get to drive here at least once a week. (It is only 10 minutes from my house.)

Hello everyone! It's been way too long since I made an update. Everything's moving along a little slow but still moving which is good. I'm in the small business incubator now. Went to Berea, Kentucky and my wonderful chemistry advisor gave me almost all the lab equipment I could possibly need to set up a good lab. What an amazing gift!! He's also agreed to continue working with me. But as you may know I'm in an office and not a lab and I'm just renting Hood space periodically as I need it. So the next thing we need to manifest is an actual lab space so I can set up and not have to carry everything down to the rented space.

Also, Warren Wilson has found a student that's interested in working as an apprentice for me for the summer. She will mostly be working on analyzing materials that I create in the lab. Also a huge blessing.

My next big adventure is to try and figure out MailChimp so that I can create a newsletter. If I don't already have your email address, you can send it to me in private message.

Lovely pink dogwoods just outside my office window in bloom. The other picture is the office mid-organization. Just to give you a sense of things.

There's a lot of exciting things happening. Warren Wilson, a small liberal arts college near me, is going to be doing some of my analytical work to give the students an opportunity to practice working with the instruments. I'm really excited to be working with them. That's actually already in process and doesn't necessarily require any funding, but I'm going to be seeking a grant to support scaling up a little bit so that the student can get paid for their work.

I also have been in touch with my old chemistry advisor from when I was more active with organofuels. He's downsizing his lab and he has a number of pieces of equipment that are essential to my process that he's not using anymore. We're in the process of negotiating how much those pieces of equipment will cost. But he promises me a good deal.

OrganoFuels' Kickstarter Fundraiser is 20% funded ($840 of $4200). I am so touched by peoples generosity. As a reminder, kickstarter does not release the funds on a project unless it is 100% funded. I imagine if we got 400 people to donate $10, it would be ease on everyone. Please pass this on if you feel inspired.
