OrganoFuels

OrganoFuels OrganoFuels has created two gasoline substitute products from algae. These drop-in ready fuels serves as as a stepping stone as we move away from fossil fuels.

Lovely pink dogwoods just outside my office window in bloom. The other picture is the office mid-organization. Just to give you a sense of things.

There's a lot of exciting things happening. Warren Wilson, a small liberal arts college near me, is going to be doing some of my analytical work to give the students an opportunity to practice working with the instruments. I'm really excited to be working with them. That's actually already in process and doesn't necessarily require any funding, but I'm going to be seeking a grant to support scaling up a little bit so that the student can get paid for their work.

I also have been in touch with my old chemistry advisor from when I was more active with organofuels. He's downsizing his lab and he has a number of pieces of equipment that are essential to my process that he's not using anymore. We're in the process of negotiating how much those pieces of equipment will cost. But he promises me a good deal.

OrganoFuels' Kickstarter Fundraiser is 20% funded ($840 of $4200). I am so touched by peoples generosity. As a reminder, kickstarter does not release the funds on a project unless it is 100% funded. I imagine if we got 400 people to donate $10, it would be ease on everyone. Please pass this on if you feel inspired.

Well... we have raised $460 of the $4200 goal. As you know, Kickstarter only funds if we reach the full goal. So, please pass this on. Imagine, if 420 people donate just $10 each, we can do it. Thank you SSOOO much for your support!

Yay - we are live!
Want to help move the USA away from fossil fuels? Reduce carbon emissions? but still have use of your gasoline vehicle until you can move to electric? OrganoFuels is working on creating gasoline from algae, and since algae is photosynthetic (uses carbon dioxide) this is creating a carbon neutral fuel option. We are seeking funding for the heart of the project, the algae growth chamber, called a photobioreactor (PBR). This novel and proprietary PBR has many advantages,
1) it is stackable so low land use,
2) it can be used in conjunction with any refinery, ethanol plant, or other carbon producing factory
3) is designed to accommodate two simultaneous pathways to fuel production, doubling our fuel production options and yields
4) Is designed to mitigate common algae growing issues, such as contamination by things that like to eat algae (rotifers)

The goal is $4500 to be reached in 30 days. We can do this if we can get 450 people to donate $10 or more each. So, please pass this on to everyone you know. Thank you so much for joining me in this exciting transitional technology.

Please pass this on to everyone you can think of. With very few grants available, this is one way to get things moving. Thank you so much for your support.

If all goes well, I am going to launch a kickstarter fundraising campaign on April 1st. This is the video I created for that landing page. Let me know what you think. (I don't have ability to edit - so forgive the coughing)

Hello everyone, quick update. I will be meeting with the small business center in mid-march to present my business plan, so that I can get into the small business incubator. The advantages to being in the incubator are many but the main ones for me are low-cost rent, access to business support, and the North Carolina biotechnology laboratory will be just one floor away from me. They have the equipment I need to do most of the testing and analysis of my product. I should be able to move in by April 1st. Thank you for all your support.

Hello everyone!

It has been a busy and lovely holiday season. I had sinus surgery and sound like I am in an echo chamber. So, I am going to just type an update this time again, but will get back to video updates next week.

OrganoFuels has hit a few "slow-downs" unfortunately. The small business incubator, where I had planned to set up the business, has officially decided not to rent space until they get their HVAC system fixed (which is NOT in the works at this time - sadly). I started looking into other options, but they are at least 4-10 times as expensive. wow!! I think there is an option to work with students during the summer, but that is not a permanent solution. BUT I have lots of ideas - I am working on how to create a hood myself or to buy one used. Then I can just use any industrial space.

See one option here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/135554263821?_skw=laminar+hood+chemical&itmmeta=01KEHJE7006A6AWETXVRX72MT9&hash=item1f8fa9eb0d:g:uAsAAOSwiqJnr1N6&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1fYbDIhDSQDmYia2ake1VFUgXKNklc5Q9lL2pXgQyNDc%2F9%2FvLnXAt3DAiZZJ4whN5k%2BEN%2B4MZRBuoz4bO%2BHwpzPM1RVOWYMUiJpx03AA3r0Nk0v%2BEItKHP9hYqzAa2%2FMDcfP%2FS%2B7LXgHlJiywq2dBxNPn8LYqMEeg8xPS%2FZ1DCrn8vyeKNa8CdWhdcYHVnE5xsyZkrmWgHD%2FQfLlHCed7Ex%2BiidGt9HGAryPa8TYgnbROtwebjc4bOcd2O1y8g9Lf8bQfRgy%2B4yjbZhVEYcczxdzbtz3LreRpgDzZUQoslnbg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6LwuLL0Zg

Hey all! It's been a good week, lots of things in the works. A few weeks ago, I was given a wonderful donation by a friend. I plan to use the money to do some of the initial laboratory work. One of the challenges with making things as a chemist, is you have to use fancy equipment to show you have what you say you have. It's not like a cake or a motorcycle - it's not even microscopic.

I met with the NC Bionetwork Laboratory about using their equipment and space as I get started. They have everything I need, and I think it will work fine. My primary goal this next couple of weeks is to find a place to do the basic work to save on the over all costs. But I can get started using the donation money to set up the testing protocols so I am ready to go when everything else is in place.
