JD Eckman is a full service construction company, with our own in-house engineering staff of over 8 full-time registered professional engineers licensed in several states and over a dozen project managers/engineers we have the expertise to handle the most complex projects. We employ a full-time safety staff, who ensure the safety of our workers and the jobsite, and maintain OSHA compliance.

Work continues on the bridge at English Center which is quite impressive considering the winter we’ve had. Crews are now half way across the bridge (minus the grid deck).

Over the course of 9 weeks, some of our field employees, working out of the shop for the winter, hosted the first ever “Garage Dip Off” - and it did not disappoint.
Each week, one employee brought in a homemade dip to be shared and scored. And a committee of 10 highly qualified (and very hungry) judges was formed.
After 9 competitive weeks and some serious taste tasting the winners were:
1st place Brian Walcott
2nd place Gavin Eby
3rd place Steve Burns

Bragging rights have officially been awarded and the bar is set for 2027.

Last week some members of our management team attended an HCSS software conference in Houston Texas. The purpose of the trip was to learn about new software we have implemented to more effectively manage our jobs and the safety communication between the field and the office. Also I think they had a little fun.

They have completed the highest quality paving work in District 8 and 6 in 2025!
Big congratulations to everyone on those paving crews. Paving is hard work and done mostly at night with incredible pressure to get it done.
Way to go!

Today during our supervisor’s training we celebrated the retirement of Ray Caldwell. Ray spent 41 years at J.D. Eckman Inc. and was hired by Jim Eckman all those years ago rising through the ranks to become a general superintendent sharing his vast knowledge with so many. Ray has been pivotal to the growth and success of this company and we are grateful for the time and miles he logged along the way.
Ray will be missed but we are happy for him and his family as they get to spend more time with him. It was great to celebrate this moment and give Ray his gold hard hat with his family by his side.
