This is my first time dealing with ✨laryngitis✨

I have different demands on my voice these days because singing with a corporate band has essentially taken the place of audio engineering in the recording studio. I had to figure out how to get my voice back to a decent condition to continue my weekly vocal demands. It was interesting to navigate, but I made it through!

Music is your therapist. Not me!

What I’m essentially saying is that you don’t need me to tell you what to do and how to feel and what to talk about in your music. Put it all on the track! Don’t just tell me about it. Let’s give it a structure and an outlet in the music.

Seeking validation, even from your engineer, can cause you to become dependent on approval outside yourself. We’re here to make YOUR music. I don’t take it personally. Please try not to take personally when I say you don’t need my validation. Yes, we want to match vibes, but this creation starts with you! I’m just here to help bring it to fruition!

I don’t want you dependent on my vibe!

Some artists will hear this and take it personally when, in reality, your music is YOUR responsibility first and foremost. Why would you put the fate of your music in someone else’s hands when the power starts with YOU 🫵🏽?!?

Audio engineers are people, too! I try to remain consistent with everyone, but sometimes things that have nothing to do with you may cause me to show up not as chipper as I normally would. Understand this, and respect that we’re human, too!

Your body IS your instrument!

People think the voice as an instrument is all there is to it, but a lot of people seem to forget that the BODY of the instrument is even more important than how the air escapes your mouth. The body is what the air moves through, and all we’re doing when we sing is manipulating how that air comes out so it can give us a certain sound. But if you don’t make sure the body is good, the air coming out won’t be good either, i.e. you won’t hit the right notes!

If I’m not mistaken, we recorded a kind of company update for employees to view and be brought up to speed with the happenings of the airline as well as projections for the year. The woman we recorded was a masterclass in how to keep company transparency and communication within a team!
