I am not a rough carpenter. I am a finish carpenter and journeyman cabinet maker. I build cabinetry in shops and on site including bars, cases, enclosures, tables, storage, booths, counters, shelves, consoles, entertainment centers, displays, surrounds, kitchens, and specialty items. My onsite construction techniques include miter-folding, pocket holes, dovetail joinery for 1/2" drawers, and plate
joinery (biscuit splines). Dado and rabet joinery if desired. I have tools for most operations, but some concessions may need to be made for onsite construction. Contactors and designers I work with know my tool set and what can be done. Also, I will suggest changes in construction through my shop drawings. Designers should keep in mind that readily available sheet goods are 4x8. Typically the process starts with material selection, I'll put together a list for customer or contractor to order. Ill go over style and construction types, do CAD shop drawings, and make cut lists. Next I set up saws and a 4x8 table, and If possible, I cut up all wood materials (same procedure as in a cabinet shop). Sanding can be done by me or you can assign me a helper, or I can bring in a helper to do the pre sanding. Alternately, all the sanding can be done near the end just before finishing. Next I assemble all casework, and hand off edge banding, drilling shelf holes, and any other simpler tasks, to helpers. Finishing is typically done by others, and I have a short list of good finishers for paint, stain, and top coating. Final installation is usually done by the carpenters onsite. I can set them up and go over proceedure. I am also available for installation. I charge an hourly rate. I charge for all activities except travel and morning shopping at Home Depo or Menards. My weekly invoicing is broken down by day and activities. Materials like screws, hinges, sand paper, bits, etc.,appear as line items, of which you receive a copy of the receipt and must reimburse me for. A specialty bit that I use and keep I pay for half. I live in Evergreen Park, so on city jobs I like to get out by 2 to beat traffic. I can start earlier, or work 6.5 hour days. Most store cabinetry sets can be done in less than 6 weeks for under 15k including material!
