Today's one of those "trust the process" kind of days...

Our skid steer — the one we've had and relied on
— has been giving us a run for our money lately.
It's older, it's been breaking down, and right now it's down while we're trying to track down parts.

And if you're in this kind of work... you know that puts everything on hold.

So today, we stepped outside of our comfort zone and decided to go all in.
We purchased a new piece of equipment for Gallo Contracting... and apparently for the farm too 😅

(Dan says I “need it" for the farm... so we're just gonna go with that.)

Not gonna lie... it's a little scary.
But it's also exciting.

We're just really thankful.

For the work, for the growth, and for every single person that continues to support us and trust us.

We don't have it all figured out — we're just taking it one step at a time.

**Have you ever had to make a decision that felt scary... but you knew it s the right move?**👇

Grab your notebook and a pencil… you might want to take some notes. 🙌

If a contractor is coming out to look at your project, these are 6 questions every homeowner should be asking.

1️⃣ Are you licensed and insured?
Ask for proof. This protects you if something goes wrong.

2️⃣ Who will actually be doing the work?
Will it be the contractor, employees, or subcontractors?

3️⃣ What things could cause the price to increase?
Hidden damage, structural issues, material changes, etc.

4️⃣ What does the payment schedule look like?
You should always understand when payments are due and why.

5️⃣ Will permits be required for this project?
And who is responsible for pulling them?

6️⃣ What kind of timeline should I realistically expect?
Weather, materials, and scheduling all play a role.

A good contractor should have no problem answering these questions.

Because hiring the right contractor isn’t just about the price — it’s about transparency, communication, and trust.

Does this kind of thing matter to you?

If construction started next door to your house, would it matter if the contractor introduced themselves and left their phone number… or would you not really think much about it?

This is something I’ve decided to start implementing at Gallo Contracting.

Most of the places we work are pretty rural, but sometimes we’re on projects where neighbors are right there close by. And when trucks, equipment, and materials start showing up, it can definitely impact the people living around the job.

And to me, those neighbors matter too.

So when we’re in those situations, I’m going to start introducing myself and leaving a letter like this so people know who we are and that they can reach us if they ever need to.

Just trying to be mindful of the homes and people around our job sites.

So tell me honestly… would something like this matter to you?

Things homeowners don’t always realize about remodeling…

Sometimes things that look like they should be quick and simple end up taking much longer — and it’s completely out of a contractor’s control.

You never truly know what you’re working with until everything gets opened up.

For example on this project, once we removed all the flooring we discovered the floor joists underneath were not spaced evenly “on center” like they normally should be. Subfloor sheets are designed to land on those joists, so when the framing underneath isn’t laid out properly, nothing lines up the way it should.

Instead of being able to lay the new subfloor down quickly, our crew had to take extra time adjusting and working around the existing structure to make everything fit correctly.

What should have been a fairly straightforward step turned into a much bigger job simply because of what we were working with underneath.

And this is just one example of the kinds of things that can slow down a remodeling project.

Other common things we run into include:

• Hidden structural issues once walls or floors are opened
• Plumbing or electrical that was installed incorrectly years ago
• Water damage that wasn’t visible before demolition
• Materials being backordered
• Weather delays on certain phases of construction

Remodeling older homes especially can come with surprises.

But the goal is always the same — take the time to do it right so everything going back together is solid and built to last.

Ever had a home project where you later realized there was more going on behind the scenes than you thought?

Another completed project for a long-time client.

Island upgrade.
Backsplash install.
Quartz countertops by PG Granite & Quartz.

This is the fourth project we’ve done in this home. They trusted our timeline, waited months for our schedule to open up, and stuck with us while custom pieces came in.

We appreciate that kind of loyalty.

What’s your favorite part of this kitchen update — the island, countertops, or the backsplash? 👇

In light of everything happening in our world right now, we want to take a moment to lift up the men and women serving our country.

We are praying for their safety, their strength, and for peace.

We are grateful for the sacrifices they and their families make every single day.

This is what “off time” looks like for Dan.

He’s home.
But he’s still on the phone.
Still in the office.
Still building Gallo Contracting.

Two years ago we started Gallo Contracting Inc. because we were tired of hearing the same thing around here…

“They never called back.”
“They never showed up.”
“They didn’t do it right.”

We said we would be different.

Now, two years in… we understand why so many struggle.

When you’re one man wearing every hat, trying to build something in an area where dependable, quality help is hard to find — the mental load is constant.

Here’s 100 real things that go through Dan’s head on any given day:
1. Did I send that estimate?
2. That client is waiting on pricing.
3. That other client waiting.
4. That one needs warranty work.
5. Are the guys on time?
6. Are they doing it right?
7. Are they doing it the Gallo way?
8. Is the tile layout straight?
9. Is the framing square?
10. Did we measure twice?
11. Why is my phone ringing again?
12. Who needs me right now?
13. I need to stop what I’m doing and go help.
14. If I leave here, this falls behind.
15. Did I order materials?
16. What else do we need to order?
17. Did I order enough?
18. Did the blueprints come in yet?
19. There’s a change order —
20. Are we going over budget?
21. Can we afford that mistake?
22. The new guy messed up.
23. Now we need more materials to fix it.
24. Tools broke again.
25. We need replacement tools.
26. Why are tools disappearing?
27. The trailer still needs lettering.
28. We need to work on marketing.
29. When am I supposed to have time for that?
30. I’ll probably have to work this weekend.
31. That’s another weekend no family time.
32. Did the subcontractor show up?
33. Is he doing it to our standards?
34. Is he cutting corners?
35. Did we lock the trailer?
36. Did we tarp everything before the rain?
37. Is the concrete curing correctly?
38. Did we protect the floors well enough?
39. Did we clean up thoroughly?
40. Is the client happy?
41. Did we invoice that job?
42. Is that invoice going to get paid on time?
43. Payroll has to run.
44. That subcontractor needs paid.
45. Do we have enough in the account?
46. Did insurance get drafted?
47. What about workers’ comp?
48. Is our license still active?
49. The accountant has more questions.
50. I need to get them documents.
51. I need to help Jessica figure this out.
52. We’re learning this new program.
53. Am I entering this correctly?
54. Is this system actually helping us?
55. Did I return that phone call?
56. Did I respond to that email?
57. Permit approved yet?
58. Inspector scheduled?
59. Did we schedule the dumpster pickup?
60. Fuel the equipment.
61. Service the skid steer.
62. The truck is making that noise again.
63. Who’s picking up materials tomorrow?
64. I need to stop by Lowe’s.
65. The supplier shorted our order.
66. That material is backordered.
67. Did we finish that punch list?
68. Is the wiring correct?
69. Did the HVAC crew finish what they said?
70. Did we seal that leak completely?
71. Is that hob complete?
72. What’s tomorrow’s plan?
73. What does next week look like?
74. How do we grow without dropping quality?
75. Where do we find dependable help?
76. How do we train someone to lead?
77. Why is it so hard to find people who care?
78. Are we building something sustainable?
79. Are we making the right decisions?
80. How do we keep our reputation strong?
81. Is this up to our standards?
82. Do we need another truck?
83. Do we need another crew?
84. How do we afford that?
85. That client still hasn’t signed.
86. That deposit hasn’t come in.
87. Material prices just went up again.
88. We underbid that job.
89. I need to rework that schedule.
90. I still have three estimates to write tonight.
91. It’s 6 o’clock and I’m just now eating.
92. My phone battery is almost dead.
93. I still haven’t called that supplier back.
94. We need better systems.
95. We need stronger leadership on site.
96. I need to double check that measurement.
97. If this fails, it’s on me.
98. People trust our name.
99. I can’t let our standards slip.
100.Thank you, Lord, for the work.

This is what building something from nothing really looks like.

It’s pressure.
It’s responsibility.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s caring more than most people ever see.

For those of you who give us grace…
Who are patient with us….
And who continue to support us through the growing pains —

Thank you.

Truly.

We appreciate you more than you know. 💙

Some seasons stretch you.

And this has been one of them.

But I’ll tell you this — when things get heavy, Dan just keeps going.

One of our trucks went down on the way to a project this weekend. And instead of frustration, instead of shutting down, instead of taking a break — he just handled it. He worked on it. He figured it out.

It doesn’t matter if he hasn’t had a day off.
It doesn’t matter if there’s a mountain of work in front of him.
He just keeps going.

And lately, it feels like it’s been one thing after another.

Vehicles.
Equipment.
Schedules.
Growing pains.

Running a small construction company isn’t for the weak. This season has stretched us. Some days I feel the weight of it more than I want to admit.

We have a ton of work ahead of us. We’re actively trying to expand. We’re hiring. We’re trying to find the right people — not just anyone, but dependable people with real construction experience who take pride in what they do. And honestly, that’s been one of the hardest parts.

But we’ll get there.

I believe in what we’re building. I believe in him. Even on the heavy days.

To our clients who have been patient with us while we navigate this season — thank you for toughing it out with us. Thank you for giving us grace as we grow.

And if you know someone with construction experience who’s looking for work and takes pride in doing things the right way… please send them our way.

02/17/2026

One thing we like to explain to homeowners when we’re doing a remodel is this…

A remodel is not the same as new construction.

In a brand new home, everything starts out straight, level, and square. In a remodel, we’re working with a house that’s lived in for years — sometimes decades. Floors settle, walls move, and nothing is ever perfectly even underneath.

Materials like tile especially will show this. Tile doesn’t bend or flex, so it follows whatever is underneath it. If a wall is slightly out of square or a floor has a small dip, tile can make those things more noticeable. That’s why grout lines, cuts, or transitions may vary slightly — not because of poor workmanship, but because we’re tying new materials into an existing structure.

Our goal in a remodel isn’t perfection — it’s making the space better, functional, and beautiful while working with what’s already there.

We always try to be honest about that from the beginning, because understanding the process makes for a much better experience for everyone.

For homeowners who’ve been through a remodel — what was the hardest part of the process for you?

We are currently looking to add a licensed electrician and plumber to our subcontractor team at Gallo Contracting Inc.

We have projects ready to go and are looking for reliable professionals who show up, communicate, and take pride in what they do. Good subcontractors are hard to find, and we’re ready to work with the right people.

If that sounds like you, give us a call.

Did you know we do a lot more than remodeling?

In this photo, you’re looking at what’s left of an existing home that we’re currently cleaning up and removing. This is the first stage of the process — debris cleanup, site prep, and getting everything cleared out so we can start fresh.

Eventually, there will be a brand new home sitting right here.

A lot of people only see the finished projects, but there’s a lot of work that happens before that point. On any given job we may be:

✔️ Cleaning up and removing existing structures
✔️ Grading and excavation
✔️ Additions and remodeling
✔️ New builds from the ground up

And something new we’ve had in the works — because our own dumpsters stay tied up on our job sites, we recently ordered more and are adding Gallo Dumpster Rentals as a division of Gallo Contracting. Soon we’ll be offering dumpster rentals to the public as well.

We like sharing the before stages because this is where every project really begins.

We’re getting ready to put signage on the sides of our dumpsters — does anyone local have recommendations for someone who does vinyl or signage work?
