We had our facility scanned as part of a project to create an accessible virtual tour of the AGGRC. We invited a group of talented students with training in Digital Twinning to scan our halls and labs with a high tech VR/drone set up!

Who are these rays of sunshine?! It's Exaiptasia! ☀

Take a close look at one of the fascinating marine invertebrates studied at the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center!

Exaiptasia is a sea anemone widely used as a model organism in coral research, particularly for studying the relationship between corals and their symbiotic algae. Research using this model helps scientists better understand the biology of these partnerships and their role in coral health.

At AGGRC, we’re exploring ways to preserve valuable aquatic genetic resources and support future research through germplasm preservation and cryopreservation. 🧬

Today we say goodbye to Lillian Bodie as she moves on to her next adventure! For the past year she has had an array of responsibilities from animal husbandry to the management of our training and prototyping services. No matter what job she did, she did it with a smile and determination that we’ll miss!

We know she’ll continue to grow into an amazing professional! Thank you Lillian and we’re always rooting for you!

Yesterday, the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center (AGGRC) welcomed USDA representatives, including Dr. Lauren Stump, Jeff Silverstein, and Perry Rainosek, for a tour of our facilities! The visit provided an opportunity to highlight AGGRC’s work in aquatic genetic resource preservation, germplasm cryopreservation, and supporting the future of sustainable aquaculture.

We were also pleased to welcome Andy Brown of the Louisiana Farm Bureau, along with Hampton Grunewald, Andrew Schade, and Kaelyn Fogelman of the LSU AgCenter. Visits like these strengthen connections between federal partners, agricultural organizations, and researchers working to safeguard valuable genetic resources and advance aquaculture research. 🌱🧬

Thank you to our guests for visiting AGGRC and for their continued interest in this important work!

The old barn has been demolished! It lasted a long while, but it was time for it to go. This demolition has made our facility safer and has given us the opportunity to build something even better in its place!

Learning hands-on in the lab! Sydney is teaching Dylan how to use a pH meter to measure pH for aquatic invertebrate experiments. pH is an important water-quality factor that can influence the health, survival, and behavior of aquatic invertebrates. By measuring pH, we can better understand how water chemistry affects these tiny but important organisms in aquatic ecosystems! 🧪🦐🌊
