This summer, Jack Schliewe built one of the most exciting features FarmMind has released during his internship.

Jack Schliewe is a senior at LSU studying computer science and cybersecurity. He joined us after a conversation with our founders about language barriers on farm crews, and he spent the summer shipping two things: Live Voice Translation for real-time conversations, and on-device speech-to-text with downloadable language packs, so transcription and translation keep working where there's no signal.

The clip shows why it matters. A sugarcane crew member explains the planting process in Spanish, and the conversation crosses the language line without waiting on a bilingual go-between.

The internship is over, but Jack isn't leaving. He's staying on the team through the fall semester while he finishes his degree in at LSU.

If you ask a general chatbot about a pesticide and you will get an answer but it will not get whether you are allowed to spray it next week.

Aaron Beatty is a crop consultant on our team. We asked him the most unexpected thing he has seen FarmMind's research assistant do. His answer was not a map or a report. It was a cutoff date.

He asked about a chemistry, and the assistant came back with the restriction: you can't spray this product past this date. That information lives on EPA labels, in state exemptions, and in extension bulletins, and a consultant is expected to carry all of it in his head across every product he touches in a season.

The assistant brings that label context into the conversation and cites the source, so you can open the document and read before you make the call.

Pattern recognition explains why strangers predict identically. Ask a room to complete "the man, the myth, the..." and nearly everyone says "legend."

They never coordinated. Their prior experience with that "data" trained them to respond the same way.

AI works on the same principle. Feed it that prompt and it returns "legend" every time, running pattern mathematics on statistical likelihood.

Agricultural communicators operate this way too. Farmers recognize patterns in messaging, market signals, and weather. They predict outcomes based on historical context. Both humans and AI use the same fundamental mechanism: recognizing patterns from context to predict what comes next.

Context + patterns = predictable outputs

Successful communication requires recognizing the patterns that already exist and providing the context your audience needs to act on them.

Last week, the American Farm Bureau brought nearly 400 staff members from across the country to New Orleans for the 2026 Staff Institute, with sessions focused on AI and ag communication in the intelligence age.

Grateful for the opportunity to be part of it and to be in the room with so many great people in agriculture.

As AI becomes more embedded in agriculture, the communicators who win will be those who understand this: farmers aren't adopting new thinking. They're recognizing their own logic reflected back at scale.

When you go get your car fixed, you don't need to care about the tools. You just get your car fixed.

That was Colin's answer on the AI panel at the American Farm Bureau Ag Communications Convention in New Orleans this week. AI is a tool. We use that tool to help ag professionals.

If AI gets us there faster, good. If something else gets us there faster, also good. The question is always whether it's actually helping the grower.

Thank you to American Farm Bureau for the invite, and to the team at Louisiana Farm Bureau for everything they did to make it happen. Always good to be in a room with people who tell ag's story for a living and strive for innovation in agriculture.

FarmMind is proud to have sponsored the Digital and Precision Agriculture Research Presentation Competition at the LSU AgCenter this week.

A few years ago, our team started as LSU AgCenter research alongside the LSU Engineering and Ogden Honors College colleges. We also got our start after a LSU presentation competition, so it was an honor to sponsor more innovative research from the AgCenter

The morning started with a panel discussion, a research exhibition, and a poster competition covering remote sensing, robotics, data systems, and so many groundbreaking ideas and discoveries. We then had the opportunity to meet with the professors, researchers, and students working and learning about how we can improve agriculture.
