..BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM MONDAY TO 6 AM AKST
TUESDAY...
* WHAT...Localized ground blizzard conditions expected. Winds
gusting as high as 70 mph throughout the Matanuska Valley.
Blowing and drifting snow likely in exposed areas, reducing
visibility to as low as one quarter mile at times.
* WHERE...Matanuska Valley.
* WHEN...From 9 AM Monday to 6 AM AKST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and
evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause damage, power
outages, and difficulty for high profile vehicles.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds will increase through the day on
Monday, reaching peak gusts between 55 and 70 mph around 9pm.
Open areas such as lakes, the Hay Flats, fairgrounds and areas
that were less impacted by recent rain and/or wind, will be more
likely to see reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you.If you get stranded, stay
with your vehicle.
