Culvert erosion repair wrapped up.

This area had started washing out around the end of the culvert and the dirt apron, so we excavated and reshaped the outlet area, installed geotextile fabric, and placed #4 granite to help stabilize the soil and protect against future erosion.

It’s not always a big project that needs attention. Small drainage problems can turn into much bigger repairs if the erosion is allowed to continue.

Another one knocked out and ready for the next rain.

A little standing water after a hard rain isn't always a big deal. But if you're seeing the same wet areas every time it rains, there's usually something else going on.

A few things we look for when checking out a drainage problem:

• Water still sitting several days after the rain
• Small washouts or erosion that keep getting worse
• Dirt and sediment being carried into ditches or low areas
• Culverts backing up or not moving enough water
• Soft areas that never seem to completely dry out

One of the biggest mistakes we see is trying to fix the spot where the water ends up without figuring out why it's getting there in the first place.

Sometimes it's a grading issue. Sometimes it's a ditch or culvert. Other times, water is coming from a completely different part of the property than you'd expect.

Every site is a little different, and the right fix starts with figuring out what the water is actually doing.
