Enjoy It is one of our Common Beliefs. Laughing, smiling, and appreciating the journey.

That one is easy to nod at and hard to actually schedule. So we scheduled it.

More than 180 of us gathered at the Detroit Zoo, families included, for a day with nothing on the agenda but being together. No meetings, no updates, no deadlines. Just lunch, face paint, Dippin' Dots, and an afternoon to wander the zoo with the people who matter most to us.

The work we do is hard, and it is meaningful. Days like this are how we make sure we do not miss it.

Thank you to every family who came out. You are a big part of why this team is what it is.

Josh has been building our warehouse into something that can scale. As of this week, he's got another set of hands. ⬇️

Stephen Tovey joins O'Brien Interiors Group as a Warehouse Associate. Receiving, staging, loading, forklift and pallet jack, and keeping the floor running clean so the crews out in the field never have to wonder whether their material is coming.

He told us he figured out a long time ago that he likes creating structure and keeping things on track until they're finished. Around here, that's not a personality quirk. That's the job.

What he's looking forward to most is learning a new environment, working through new challenges, and doing it with a team. All three are on the schedule.

Our summer interns wrapped up last week, and we could not let them leave without saying thank you to the people who made their twelve weeks worth it.

To the superintendents who explained things twice. To the PMs who let them sit in on the hard calls. To everyone who took a few of their 1,440 minutes to answer a question instead of waving it off.

These three got to see how this work is done by people who are genuinely the best at it. That is not something you can teach in a classroom, and it does not happen unless people choose to give their time.

Thank you for showing them what a great team and work look like.

Most of the buildings we're asked to renovate were built before 1978.
That means lead paint. It often means asbestos in the flooring and many other places. And it means the biggest risk isn't the work you scoped. It's the material nobody identified before a blade hit it.

Our field teams just completed Lead and Asbestos Awareness training.

The goal is to make sure every person on site can recognize suspect material and stop before it becomes airborne. It protects and crew and, in an occupied building, the residents who may be just a few yards away.

It also protects the construction schedule. A crew that flags suspect material during pre-construction gives owners + developers abatement that's scoped, priced, and planned. A crew that finds it mid-demo gives you a stop-work order.

Twenty-three AGC Outstanding Safety Performance Awards didn't come from luck. They came from days like this one.

The oldest of four. That's where it starts for a lot of organized people, and Alexis Austin is no exception. ⬇️

Meet Alexis, our new Project Manager at O'Brien Interiors Group. She'll tell you the instinct kicked in around age ten, taking inventory of her own toys and clothes just to know where everything stood. Funny how a habit like that grows up into a career. Knowing what you have and where it goes is the quiet backbone of good project management.

The interiors work we do runs on coordination. Schedules, materials, trades, and a hundred small details all have to land in the right order so residents barely notice the work happening around them.

Here's what got us excited about Alexis though: she's joining OIG early, while the team is still taking shape, and that's exactly where she wants to be. She loves learning new systems, she's eager to make her mark, and she sees herself as part of the foundation of something. Not joining what we've built. Helping build what's next.

Everything has a place. And everything goes back after it's used. ⬇️

Meet Josh Robinson, our new Warehouse Manager at O'Brien Interiors Group. Josh grew up with an ex-military parent, where "everything has a place" wasn't a suggestion, it was the rule. Somewhere along the way it stopped being a rule and just became how he operates.

Turns out that's exactly what a warehouse runs on. Behind every clean install is a space where nothing's lost, nothing's guessed at, and everything is squared away.

But here's the part we love: Josh isn't planning to stop at keeping the shelves in order. He's already talking about building processes that can be mirrored across our other states, and a team to run them. Systems that don't just work here, but travel.

Say hello to Mike Ekis.

Mike started with us this week as our new Executive Vice President of Construction. He fits how we work, he believes in what we build, and he puts us in a better position to reach the goals we've set for the years ahead.

Over his career he's helped build multifamily and senior housing across eight states - from assisted living and memory care to market-rate and affordable housing preservation. The kind of work where the people moving in matter as much as the building going up. One of the many reasons we knew he was the right fit for this team.

Mike will be based out of our North Canton, OH office, overseeing all of the senior living and build-to-rent opportunities, as well as helping to grow the O’Brien footprint across multiple states.

John Wayne joined the O'Brien team this week…again! He’s a return intern and is now a junior at the University of Michigan studying Political Science and Real Estate Development.

Did you know that before he ever showed up at one of our sites, John was out at the D-Bar-A Boy Scout Camp helping restore the Wyckoff Lodge? He told us he wants that feeling again…the one you get when you're involved in building something that matters.

That's why he's here.

And on his first walk of an active job site, the thing that wowed him wasn't the cranes or the scale. It was how hard everyone was working.

That's you. That's this team.

Between now and August, John is rotating through different parts of the company so he can see how it all fits together. If you see him on your site or in the office, take a minute to welcome him and show him why what you do matters.

By August, Devin has set himself a goal that we wholeheartedly endorse! ⬇️

Meet Devin Genzel, our newest intern. Devin is studying Construction Technology Management Engineering at Lawrence Technological University, and the first time he set foot on a job site, what surprised him was the sheer depth of what was going on. He marveled at the coordination, the layered expertise and the volume of people all pulling in the same direction.

That depth is exactly what he came here to learn.

And his goal by the end of his internship? Walk a job site and find at least one thing that could be done better.

Devin, you picked the right place for it. "How could this be better?" is a question we ask ourselves on every job. So go find us something. We mean it! (Also: good luck. Our crews don't leave a lot on the table.)
