I’ve worked on Lake Lure for years, but I’d never seen it like this.
I wasn’t standing on the shore in this photo. I was standing on debris in the middle of the lake. I remember looking out at all of it during Hurricane Helene, trying to wrap my head around what had happened.
It’s hard to see a place you know so well look like this. I’ll never forget that day.
